I know I am beating a dead horse, but I am preparing for the worse. my father bought me an AR15 and 5 pmags as a gift, but I am not home to transfer it or whatever to my name. what can I do or should I do? should I be worried? I am from Indiana and in the military stationed over seas and cannot get home until November next year.

I guess I just dont understand how I dont have to transfer anything since I wasnt even there when the purchase took place. he just bought it and says here you go?? like I said Im new to owning guns even though Ive been in the military for 8 years. I just think its more important now then ever to make sure my second amendment is protected.

You can walk into any gun show with $X and walk out with X# of guns, no paper work needed. The same is true of all in state sales (as long as they're private). |

He bought it and decided to gift it to you at a later time. |

Transfers all depend on your state laws. In MA, we need to fill out the proper forms even if it is a transfer among family members... but if you cannot transfer it when you get back, just keep it in your father's name. In some free states... there is no paperwork at all.
Update: I did a web search and I think IN requires no paperwork. |

Trust me I spread that "FACT" everyday. I am tired of hearing all of it as well. I do as always want to know my rights and be prepared. Being this is my first AR I wanted to make sure everything I was doing was on the right path.
