Decided that since I had all the Christmas knives made now I would make one for myself.

Well, It's done!  Well pretty near anyway.  Little more polish etc.

Here it is.  I really like it.

I found out that once you start sanding into elk antlers that there is black stuff inside that doesn't look very good.  So I decided to stain it back with some dark Walnut stain.  No dice, the wood hardener that I used to stabilize the horn sealed it so well it wouldn't take a stain.  So I decided to try a propane torch and that worked pretty good.  It brought it back to a much better color and gave it the look I wanted, I might hit it one more time to get a little darker in spots.

This is my favorite so far of the knives I have made and I will be keeping this one.

What do you think?

I like it.  Nice color on the handle.  Love the spine of the blade.

Thanks, I learned to be more choosy when picking Antler as a handle.

Nice!  I really like the blade shape.  What steel did you use?

Thanks,  This one is 1095 HC steel.  The blade shape came to me as I was filing another knife.  I looked over and saw a piece of 1095 and a guard setting on the edge of my desk and a light bulb went on.  I stopped what I was doing and traced it out and went straight out to cut it out and start the knife.  It came out exactly as I saw in my head, which is why I like this one so much.
