Curious, how many rounds do you use on average when you go to the range?

Out here it's a bit of a trip so we tend to go through quite a bit (over 50 easy).

Just curious if where we are compared to everyone else.

It's nothing to go through 500 rounds in an afternoon. Start shooting 22lr and that number goes even higher.

Usually 100-200.  Used to be more until prices went up.

Well I definitely run a lot more than 2 mags, I'll tell you that.

Depends, just casual shooting I'll go though 200 or 300

I re-load so when I work up loads for a new caliber/grain I can go throuh 50 rds per load...sometimes I work up 10 different loads.

This last year I was going to the range once a week during the nice weather.

I'd shoot:
7 magazines of .45 == 49 rnds.
6 magazines of 9mm == 102 rnds.
2 magazines of .223 == 60 rnds. (this was a minimum)

That was just my regular "after work" range trip.

If I went with friends on a weekend it was at least that and maybe 500 rnds or so of .22lr.

ETA: And this winter I've been shooting a bullseye pistol league and that's been 120 rnds per trip. (2 courses of fire, 1 for score and 1 for practice.)

Typically 150-250, though it depends on what I'm working on or doing.

I pretty much never blast - so number depends.  That said, most of the time it is either sighting in or practice for a specific event, none of which are speed events.  Not unheard of to go out and shoot less than 20 shots.  Most of the time practice is 50.  Sometimes 200.  That said, can practice less than 50' from my back door.  Going to the range is not an event.

LOL, is it WRONG that I've gone thru over 1000 centerfire cartridges in one range trip?

Of course, with ammo costs these days, it's usually 2-300 cenetrfire, and then 500 or so .22s

200-300 center fire.

Now? ZERO.

I am not shooting until this craze blows over....which I do think it will.

Pistol, 50. I just do the FBI qual course of fire. Gives a solid metric to track progress.

Then for draw practicing, plinking, etc, I just throw on the AA .22LR slide and shoot that.

180 rounds .223 and 300 rounds 9mm last weekend.

Back when ammo was cheap I'd put a lot of rounds downrange.

Lately I've pretty much only been doing zero and function checks on acquisitions and primaries.

Always put a couple mags through my CCW.

I need to hit the range this week, my M1a project is almost done and needs zeroed since it's been bedded.
12/17/2012 10:41:00 AM EDT
[#24]
Op I beat your number the first 5 minutes at the range. 3 M&P9 mags = 51

I usually shoot a brick of .22

200+ 9mm

Maybe 200 or less 5.56

200 Shotgun shells at the skeet range.

50?  Thats gotta be a typo.  Thats a single box of pistol ammo.  I shoot 2 boxes just to warm up if I have a match coming up.  Most often Ill bring 100 rounds with some times a spare hundred to do some distinctly different shooting (weak hand, dominant hand, etc).

Rifle I will run at least 50 rounds, though the way they run the ranges here its not fun to just sit and shoot all of your ammo in 3 minutes while the muzzleloader and bolt rifle folk take 1 shot per 10 minutes.  Cease fires last an eternity.

Shotgun...anywhere from 25-200 rounds depending on how many clays we have.
12/17/2012 10:52:35 AM EDT
[#31]
Per session, 200-250 rounds normally. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

87 rounds

A couple mags of 223 50rd of 45 and 500 22lr. Or I load 5 rounds per mag and practice mag changes and maksmenship.
12/17/2012 10:57:00 AM EDT
[#35]
A couple hundred a piece through a few different rifles.
12/17/2012 10:57:09 AM EDT
[#36]
I usually shoot around 100 rounds of .22lr, 60 rounds of centerfire, 50 rounds of pistol ammo and maybe 5-10 rounds of shotgun shells.  I used to shoot much more than that when .223 was $120 per k and 7.62 was $80 per k.
12/17/2012 10:57:38 AM EDT
[#37]
200 thru the AR , 500 between the 3 .22lrs , and about 200 9mm thru the glock once or twice a month. maybe 50 .32acp thru the kel tec p32.
12/17/2012 10:57:41 AM EDT
[#38]
If I'm shooting my .22s, I can eat through an entire 550 round value pack pretty easily.

9mm, I'll usually shoot 100-150 rounds.

Rifles, 50-100.

Ammo is expensive, so I shoot more .22 than anything else these days.

I shoot a minimum of once a week and shoot no less than 200 of .40.  On rifle days, bump that up by at least another 100 or more.  I would say monthly I average at least 2k or more depending on how many matches I shoot.

And yet, every rifle for sale in the EE has a low round count.

I have several rifles with less 200 rounds through them.

I've always been more of a handgun guy.  I've only had my Ruger 22/45 for a little over a year and I think it is getting close to 10,000 rounds through it.

Depends.

If I am taking some friends out shooting, normally about 250-300 rounds
If I am taking my dad shooting (we go all day when we shoot) 500-600
If I am testing a couple new C&R guns, maybe 100.

Kinda guessed everyone would get a kick out of that. Thanks for all the replies!

Man, I wish I made more money so I could send hubby out to the range more often. Tried to get him bulk ammo for Christmas, but couldn't afford it. (Never tried reloading though, not sure I'd trust myself.... )

Least I know what to shoot for now....sorry about the pun.

.22lr? Couple of hundred. Most others? Not much, maybe 100rds per gun if lucky.
12/17/2012 11:11:12 AM EDT

Depends on caliber, 200-500 rounds easy.
12/17/2012 11:13:47 AM EDT

I always do 100 rounds, that's all that I can afford!
12/17/2012 11:14:32 AM EDT

I try to keep it around:

100rds 5.56
100rds x39
50-100rds 9mm
50-100rds 12ga (skeet)
and whatever .22lr

I won't shoot ALL of that every trip...depends on what guns I take with me
12/17/2012 11:20:29 AM EDT
[#49]
For weekend 3 gun matches 200-300rds

Since we have one a month I will be good for two years
