I haven't been on here very much lately but I thought I would share these. Here's one of my Zebra Spitting Cobras I produced a few moths ago. (Naja nigricincta) I am the first person to ever produce these in America. I've had an amazing year and I'm gearing up for another. I've been producing some very rare and beautiful snakes but these are the ones I'm most proud of. |

Very cool-I know I don't have to tell you this, but don't get bit.
Slight hijack-OP, do you know what ever happened to Mardi Snipes at Coastal Reptiles? When I was still into snakes I was looking into getting venomous, they were one of three sites I was thinking of buying from. Shortly before I sold my pythons(2004 or so IIRC) I started looking again and Coastal was no longer there. ETA-you should post that cobra here. |

Quoted: Congrats man, glad to hear of all of your success. However, please, please tell me that is a super large awesome enclosed terrarium that you have that thing in and you have not unleashed a Zebra Spitting Cobra on this continent. I have not unleashed a Zebra Spitting Cobra on this continent. He is safe in his cage at this very moment.

Quoted: I don't have pics of my Hoggs right now.hahah ...FUCK NO! im happy with my hog island boa and my brazillion rainbow boa. venomous keepers are teh crazy http://imageshack.us/a/img833/7739/sam0592c.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img850/7470/sam0611e.jpg ![]() |

Quoted: Quoted: What do you keep them in? Do they have their own "house" or just in the guest bedroom in cages? Genuinely curious how one safely houses hot snakes. There is nothing safe about housing hot snakes. It is premeditated irresponsibility. Oh, go shit somewhere else. I have hot snakes living in my yard. |

Why shit on the OP's thread? |

Statistically this industry is pretty safe. But feel free to tell me all the facts you have learned from the media. |

Quoted: Awesome! How many attempts did it take to get that color pattern That is a totally natural color and pattern from the wild, not a color morph. They are very uncommon in the industry and I have the only adults in the country right now. A few people have babies now. They were either imported or bought from me. ETA: I do not believe in venomoiding snakes.

Edit: and do you de-venomize your snakes? I don't think he does. Venomous keepers for the most part despise venomoid surgery(devenomizing). What's the point? If you want nonvenomous buy nonvenomous. Also, it's surprisingly difficult to get the surgery done. Only a few of the people who perform the surgery are actually vets and use anesthesia and pain meds on the snakes. Many of the rest are people who learned a little about snake anatomy and improvise. I've heard of people chilling the snake in a refrigerator so it can't move and cutting the glands out with no anesthesia. The only reason they haven't been arrested is they're doing it to snakes so there's little or no outcry to arrest them, Imagine someone declawing or neutering kittens in their garage. with no painkiller. If the police didn't do something about it, 4chan would be on them like stink on shit. ETA-I see he answered that already. |

This is a sunset. I have so many snakes I don't have pics of. I don't have any of my blizzards.
That nigricincta is awesome!! I had a blizzard kaouthia for a while. Can't do the cobra thing though. They move too fast. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo192/DeWittreptiles/008-1.jpg Nice! I really like cobras, I just don't have the confidence and reflexes to work with them. I like my pit vipers that I can hook & tong while they stay generally stationary. Here's a few pics I took a while back. Ornate Cantil
Neotropical Rattlesnake
Broadbanded Copperhead (might actually be Trans-Pecos..can't remember which this is)
Atheris Chlorechis (This was a friends)

Very nice! Haven't kept hots in over 15 years, myself. Anyone frightened by them is the same kind of ninny who doesn't think people need to own semi autos or NFA items. Probably a projection of their own lack of confidence and ability. When my guns can become animate and act of their own volition, rather than inanimate objects, then you have an argument. |

Quoted: I actually own one venomoid given to me by a very good friend. I treat that snake exactly like it is totally venomous. On top of everything you pointed out the surgery does not always go right even if done by vets doing everything they should. Glands have been shown to regrow in cobras and many snakes that have been voided still produce venom. One worry about having a snake that is a venomoid is it could bite someone that is treating it as if it were harmless and they could be envenomated. So for the sake of the industry and the hobby most of us believe the animals should be treated with respect at all times and venomoiding is usually frowned on. Very nice! Probably a projection of their own lack of confidence and ability. Never owned a hot but been around plenty of crotalus. Seems like having a venomoid might breed some complacency like you mentioned. I see it as treating any gun as if it's loaded even if somebody just told you they unloaded it. |

Probably a projection of their own lack of confidence and ability. I've never believed in it, either. I used to work at a rescue for dangerous animals (Chimps, baboons, bears, big cats, etc) Saddest animals were the cats and bears that were declawed and defanged. Declawing them meant removing bones in their feet. When they get old they can't walk anymore. Always treat a venomoid that way and you'll be safe. |
