Well I was on my way back from CO Springs and lost track of my speed a tad as the speed limit kept going up and down. On the other side of Gunnison a state patrol car was going the other way and turned their lights on. I pulled over as they turned around and a female officer got out and asked me for the usual stuff. She spotted a rifle in my back seat and asked about it making sure it was not loaded etc. I dunno if it was the fact I just moved to CO etc but she let me go with a warning. She had me stand over on the right side of the car as a precaution. The last thing she did was asked to see the rifle. Now I will say this. The rifle did not leave my possession at all the whole time. She wrote down the serial and ran it to see if it was stolen which I knew it wasn't as I bought the receiver originally. About a minute later she came back, handed me my id & insurance and with a smile sent me on my way. Now to the guys that say "Well you shouldn't have let her run the serial#.....She let me off with a written warning for 10 miles over the speed limit. She was kind & respectful the whole time and I would have been a real asshole if I made a stink about her running the serial especially considering it never left my possession the whole time. While it sucks getting pulled over I wish more officers acted like she did. |

When did you move to CO? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile About 2 and a half weeks ago. And I was intentionally speeding! I think she figured because I was a new re location she would give me a break.
They wouldn't do that shit in TX I know that. Well, good luck up there. Come back sometime. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Just so you are aware of it being new to the state. Having a loaded (one in the chamber) rifle in Colorado is illegal in the vehicle, you can have the loaded magazine inserted however. Poaching and Hunting related laws are the source of that. I lived in Houston for 8 years but do not recall Texas law on the subject. |

Quoted: Why wouldn't you want a cop to run your gun#? A general question not personally? Technically they can only do it if you conscent. I did. Yes she was pretty attractive but she had a ring. If she had been a bitch maybe I would have been more hostile but she was as nice as could be. She treated me with respect and I did the same. She's kind of a rare bird I've noticed as far as attitude goes. |

I had the cops run a SN on a rifle I saw the PD poking around the college admin building and pulled in to be nosy.
A neighbor by the school dorm had spotted me showing it to a buddy and reported me as a potential "gun runner". Gee - one neighbor who many of us knew worked as a dispatcher for a neighboring town, but the cops all said "It wasn't him". Riiiiiiiight. The SN came back not on file (not stolen), they handed it back to me, I re-cased it and I was sent on my way with an apology. |

They wouldn't do that shit in TX I know that. I have been stopped by Texas State Troopers twice and let go both times with a warning. On neither occasion did the Troopers run the serial number of my carry piece, or even disarm me during the stop. |

Least that was what I've seen but I could be wrong on the rifle. |

Agree http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1397411_I_Interacted_with_Texas_DPS_Trooper__Dog__is_OK.html One time I was pulled over and had my sig. He didn't even ask to see it. This last time I didn't have gun. Warning both times |

i got pulled over a few months ago. 73 in a 60. i wasn't really going much faster than anyone else does there, but i pulled out to pass coming over a hill and there he was.
WA state trooper was very cool. he did ask me if i had a rifle in the case across my backseat. "um, no, it's a bass guitar." he had no further interest and let me go. i suppose it helped that i have a clean driving record and was courteous. |

I was pulled over twice by a local PD in my AO, and never disarmed or even had an eyebrow raised about the fact that I was carrying. The most that ever happened was a pleasant ball-breaking session about the relative (dis)advantages of his Glock vs. my 1911. |
