I often have a need to have a laptop while in my car for work, but don't want to spend a lot of money. I use Google Chrome on my desktop without any issues for most of my web browsing and read my email via the browser as well, but I'm not a gmail user. My work applications are web based and work well on Chrome, too. What are the upsides and downsides of a Google Chromebook? I guess specifically the Samsung Chromebook ... it's only $250. |

Upsides? It's cheap.
Downside? Shitty built in storage capacity, you will have to pay for cloud storage later. If its not connected to the Internet it is all but worthless. It doesn't have a real OS. It can't run real software. In my mind it does nothing an equivalent tablet will do except have a real keyboard and weigh more. |

I have an Asus eeePC that's pretty handy. I'm interested in Android tablets and will add one soon. The Asus stuff is the more expensive way to go, but nice gear. Still, you're talking $250 in a Chromebook, whereas my Asus was $350, and wasn't the cheapest option. You can get a good netbook for $250, or a cheap or refurb netbook for less. With XP or Win7 you have full capability in a small and light package. Mine has XP w/10" screen, there are 7" available too. As for Chromebooks, not even on my radar. I don't like the concept. ![]() |

That seems more like the bastard child of an NC10 and a tablet PC. |
