So at the milsurp store, they had flasks.  I figured what the hell and bought one.  It was only like 15 bucks, and it's made in China.  Allegedly out of stainless steel.

The directions say to not keep alcohol in it for more than 3 days.

Why not?  Is this normal?  Or is my flask just a piece of shit?

The alcohol will eat through the lead alloy and your gin will run down the back of your leg.

I've really never understood the purpose of a flask, and I'm Irish.  Why would I want to carry a minuscule amount of liquor with me everywhere.

I wonder if its the same one they sell at Walmart for 3.97?

I bought 2, one for a back up.

I keep rum in it when I go out of town, etc...

Buddy told me not to keep the alcohol in there for long or it will create a green film. Havent had an issue with it, but it is consumed within 3 days when I fill it. They also have a little small yellow funnel in the camping section for lanterns and kerosene. I use it for filling it.

If it's chinese it has a high cadmium and lead content. I wouldn't keep water in the thing, much less booze. At least if I intended to drink from the thing.

That's kind of the part that makes me mad.  It was intended for a BOB, but if it can't store alcohol for more than 3 days, it makes it useless for bugout alcohol.  I can't fill it, put it in the bag and forget about it.

Just build a wooden box big enough to hold a pint bottle of your favorite booze.

Even better.

Not like I ever filled a camelbak with booze.

Don't really drink liquor much, and beer is out for the BOB...So, I'll just be drinking water.

OP you can buy smaller pint bottles in plastic containers at the liquor store, rum, whiskey, etc... Although they arent pretty and shiny, they are functional and should last forever or when consumed.

I remember being out in the field during basic training in 85, mixing some lemonade powder into a canteen of that lovely "Eau de Swimming Pool" and thinking, I could be a rich motherfucker if I could invent powdered beer.

Not to derail too much, but anyone have any recommendations for a decent, perhaps U.S.A  made flask?  Last flask I owned leaked after I dropped it a single time.

Years ago, I bought a really nice stainless steel flask that held I think 9 oz, and was famous for taking it to parties and out to clubs
and stuff.

It actually was really cool. I always kept Jack Daniels in it, and even if I had some in it, it was still fine weeks later.

Unfortunately, the seal for the cap eventually went bad, and the stupid hinge that held the cap broke. I super glued the hinge, but need
a seal for the cap, otherwise it leaks.

Haven't felt the need to carry any booze in quite a while though.

I have one that is solid sterling silver (not plate)  that was sold by Brooks Brothers back in the day. I've never used it but I wonder about that three day thing with it.
