In ROTC I used to joke with an old SF SGM that his patch should read De Espresso Liber. ( he was always drinking coffee). I did 20 push ups the first time but he did laugh first.

7th special forces group. Makes me remember SgtMaj Carr from high-school ROTC. One tough son of a bitch. We had the sgtMaj for 10th, 11th and 12 grade. Carr had the 10th grade. Had been a POW in Viet Nam but was super laid back until....
Maddest I ever saw him... For no reason I can explain I stuck my head in his class (I was a sr) and told them all to fall out on the range. We had an indoor range where we got to use 22 converted AR's. We used it for drill when the weather was bad or dodgeball or whatever. So i go sit in class with the other sr's minding my own business when our SgtMaj - SgtMaj Howie comes in. Howie was infantry. Short black guy and pretty much insane. Taught us important army terms like - the double butthole role - and such. So Carr sticks his head in our class and asks Howie if the sophomores are having a presentation or something because he has no one in his class. Howie says not that he knows of and Carr leaves. Now to get back to his class or his office, Carr has to walk past the door that goes out on the range. About 15 seconds later, he screams so loud I hear him through the cinder block wall that separates us. One word. My name. Howie's eyes go wide and looks at me and all I can do is smile - in a scared shitless kinda way. Carr comes exploding through my door. Like Ralphy in Christmas Story, I'll let the curtain close on that day. Years later I ran into SgtMaj Carr at Walmart as he was buying some fishing lures. We talked about that day and he laughed his ass off. Good times. A tremendous Man among men. |
