When you were the only guy at the range with an AR-15.

When only the most radical gunshops carried AR's and AK's.

When the common concensus was that people shouldn't own evil psuedo military rifles.

Things sure seemed to have changed.

I can sure remember not all that long ago when most people did not know what they were and yes that has changed.

Even most non-gun owners I know now are at least vaguely aware of them, and in the small town where I live there are no less than 6 different stores selling ARs, including Walmart. (eta: 25K pop)

The media tends to lag behind as usual though. I heard about a guy getting arrested last week and it turned out he was a convicted felon possessing the dreaded AK-15.

Hell, I remember when the best "firepower boutique" in the south bay area of Los Angeles was located in a shopping mall. My, how times changed there.

BTW, I am speaking of "The HQ" which was in the Carson Mall on Avalon Blvd.

I wish most shops carried the BAR. Always been on the top of my want list. A2 though...

Actually, yes. Black Canyon/ Ben Avery back in the mid 80's. My dad drove us there. We had the M1 carbine, Colt SP-1, and a couple of .22s. The SP-1 made us unpopular at the time.

It seems freaking crazy to me to read GD and have people asking about the AWB.

That just expired.....right?

I remember as a kid seeing ads in the sports page for Streetsweepers and USAS-12s.  That was in California in the 80s.

No, my first introduction to ARs was during the AWB. They were more than anyone in my family had ever spent on a gun.

Boy have things changed.
