2005 with 78k miles.  Meticulously maintained.  Looks mint.  Tranny, engine, and computer all headed for the crapper.  Not worth the expense to fix.  We we're going to buy ME a new truck because we expected this one to last.  Guess not.  Never again will I buy a GM vehicle.

Um... A Grand Cherokee is not made by GM.

All three going at the same time isn't normal. Was that your diagnosis or a shops? And GM? Maybe that's why the computer said everything was taking a dump.

Transmission, engine and computer all taking a dump at once? Sounds like just the computer sending mixed signals.

Good friend's who is a shop foreman for a govt agency.  He's in charge of maintaining a fleet of about a thousand vehicles.  Does all my work and never steered me wrong.

What are your symptoms?

Sorry, don't buy it.  Get a second opinion.

Umm, just a thought here... and i'm not sure if your particular application only has one "computer" as in a PCM or Powertrain control module, or if it has a ECM/TCM which are two separate units for engine and transmission.... but if one/both were to crap out that would mean your engine would run very poorly (if it runs at all) and your transmission will behave erratically.... even though both units are mechanically sound.

I'm not calling your friend's expertise into question, but the odds of those three items failing catastrophically...at the same time, are...incredibly long.

Can you give us some more detail on exactly what the symptoms are?
11/10/2012 7:16:04 PM EDT
[#21]
If both are acting up, I'm wondering if it's a battery or charging system issue. Sometimes, an alternator failing can produce AC and really cause strange running issues.
11/10/2012 7:17:57 PM EDT
[#22]
It's corrosion on the battery terminal.

I am still buying this as is.

Posting from my car on the way to the gas station and then the liquor store.  Enroute.

People will put an LS engine is just about anything these days.

Just get another 5.3l, they are less the $500 for a decent take out. How hard was it routing the exhaust  and getting the transfer case hooked up in the conversion?

Here is your problem

" shop foreman for a govt agency" .........

I'll call it like I see it. I've got twenty years in the automotive field and own four jeeps. Your Govt paid friend is FOS..... Take it to a real shop and get a real diagnoses instead of somone who has unlimited tax dollars to throw parts at vehicles.
