I just figured it up that I spend approx (give or take $10) $65.00 on Diet Mountain Dew, and Diet Coke with Lemon per month.

Now, if I gave that up (god forbid), I would have an extra $65.00 each month.. what could I do with it??????

I average about 5 to 8 cans of Diet Dew, or Diet Coke w/ lemon per day. Caffine no longer effects me (I kinda miss it, but I've been like this for a couple years now).

Heh, it sure as heck will affect you if you quit.

$65/month adds up to the cost of one post-ban ar-15 or 2-3 post-ban AK's a year, or 400-750 rounds of pistol ammo a month.  Not a bad haul.

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

You should start weaning yourself off of soda to make 0 to 3 a day.  Took me a couple of days (but I don't have too much of an addicted personality) to do that.  I love soda but I realized I was drinking way too much.  Like a 2 liter bottle and 3 or 4 cans of the diet stuff a day...

That and you should try the generic stuff and Walmart or whatever store (its tons cheaper).  I drink maybe 1 or 2 (sometimes 3) a day now...although most days of the week I drink none.

$65 a month huh?  Well after I pay my tuition I'd probably use it to save for a new pistol...

I'm sure you'll find a use for it.

Ammo springs to mind.

First thing, you're paying too much for pop. If you drink 8 a day and there are 31 days in the month, you're paying approx. $6.30 for a case of 24, if you spend $65 a month.
Only buy on sale and in quanity, if at all possible.

As for what to do with extra cash should you quit, do what I do, spend it like the world's going to end, tomorrow.[:D]

It would make a good trickle into an IRA like DoubleFeed said.

When I was still a smoker, I figured out between smoking and going to Starbucks every day before work, I was spending $250 a month just to be normal.

So I quit smoking (for different reasons) and now I drink my wife's coffee.

Today I picked up my new CZ 75B from the dealer.

To think of all the guns I could have bought with that $250 a month...

Hell, it was even worse when I was in my 20's! No Starbucks in those days, but the bar tabs made up for it.

ComputerGuy,

Well, since we're both in Orygun I think I have a solution for you. Send me the $65 each month. Then, two or three times a year you can trek on down to beautiful Brownsville, Orygun and go shoot with me at the local club.

You'll thank me for it later. Oh, by-the-way, while you're here I'll buy the pop.

I gave up the Soda for about 6 months.  Drank water and felt MUCH better--less tired in the mornings, etc.  I took the money and put it into buying a new Gunsafe.

I second a Roth IRA. Hard to believe how fast it adds up.

I haven't drunk a soda since September...and haven't really missed it at all.  Only once in a while do I crave a really good root beer (like when a restaurant makes their own!), but have resisted the temptation.

As for sodas, I heard a nurtitionist say that one can of soda has approximately 10 teaspoons of sugar each!  Not to mention the calories.  Just think what eliminating most of this from your diet would do to your health!  Also, carbonated water affects your respiratory system by dis-allowing oxygen into the hemoglobin of your blood.  If you cut it out, your respiratory and circulatory systems will improve.

As for the money, put it in a Roth.  Good idea.
