Hey GD, thought I would share a webpage that I created. It is all about fire lookouts! It is my first webpage, so go easy. I am not done with it by any means, and plan on adding more. It is part of a M.S. Terminal Project in Historic Preservation that I am doing.

Thoughts, suggestions etc. are welcomed. I know lots of you are tech savvy. Unfortunately I am not a computer wiz.

If you think its cool, like it for me!!!

FAIL.

Super loud music makes me never want to visit that site again.

This.  I'd kill the music.

Despite the fact that I love the song.

Super load music that auto-starts with the audio controls not on the immediately visible portion of the screen are super fail.

You will always remember your "first time".

However, IMHO, any web page that immediately starts music playing (that is not a music site) immediately gets closed by me. YMMV, though.

Thanks for the advice, I didn't know that it was playing too loud. That is no good. I have to figure out how to write the html code to play softer...EDIT: or not at all.

Thanks again!

I would say not at all. Usually because it is always annoying because it is unexpected.

Oh god the music.

Just one more thing you need - a nice, long intro that you can't click out.

I'm also in web design classes and have made a few pages so far that I'm never happy with lol.

Ya did good with the design, OP.  Although I'd lose the music, it's considered bad standards.  The logo could use some work too, but otherwise great job!

Coffee, Slayer and web site coding?  Sounds like many of my nights.

Site looks pretty good, but I'd take the Jimi off as well, or at least make the controls a little more obvious to visitors, maybe by placing them in the left sidebar, below your comments link.

If you want full control of your site then yes I would recommend at least basic html/css or just go to html5. You'll get a lot further than using draganddrop builder on wordpress.

Thanks for the advice.

I ditched the music. I realized what you guys are saying. GD is the perfect critical audience!!

Thanks again,

Sure, I don't mind. The pictures are from multiple towers spread across the Mescalero Apache Rez in New Mexico.
