I'm afraid I'm failing to understand the purpose of this. I already know how many rounds are in my mags since I loaded them.
OP, I'm not knocking your DIY efforts. I applaud anyone who likes to rely on themselves to come up with something to make their lives easier instead of waiting on someone else to do it, but I'm missing something. |

ETA- stamp them out of sheets of Teflon or the like, with the increments in the die. bet you could crank them out for pennies a piece.

I see this thingy being handy for ammo consolidation... Seems like it could speed things up greatly if you know just how low a given mag is, quickly, rather than SWAGing it.
I may build mine using my Stainless Steel zipties. Mark with first an electric pencil then an uber-sharpie. |

That is cool. I dont think you would make millions of this or anything but it really wouldnt be a bad idea for you to give it a shot, even if you're not interested in marketing. Think about it, what if a company or a lot of companies who make magazines decided to include one with all of their magazines and just because you had the idea made you extra cash. I guess people could just make their own but there are some people who would pay for it. It would be good for newbies learning to load their magazines. Ill admit I would count my bullets as I loaded them for awhile
I had never loaded a 30 rounds magazine in my life before I bought my AR.

cool....but I'm already carrying too much shit as it is...as a range warrior. I'd lose it and have to buy another from you. Maybe you could sell a beer coozie that has an even 50 count wrapped around it.
bad idea to drill 3/16 peep holes in the back of the mag and put a tab of clear packing tape over the hole? and now I'm thinking bout the led counter on the Alien pulse rifle.... poor placement...should be up near the front sight. |

I love this idea! Most useful DIY tool I've seen in a while. OP - IM is inbound.
I went about it a little differently than the OP. I started my marks at 2 rounds (at 1 it's pretty damn obvious) and then made a red mark every 5 rounds, with black hash marks in between. This makes it very quick and easy to use. Since I like to load my AR mags to 28, I made a large red mark at the top where 28 is, and then marked 29 and 30 with green (different color means pay attention - in this case, too many rounds!). Then I covered the whole thing with clear packing tape to protect the numbers from rubbing off. NOTE: spraying a sealant on will make the marker run and you'll have to wipe it all off and start over, or so I've heard.
