I know the SKS saw extensive action in Vietnam. What other wars was the SKS rifle used in?

Quoted:
Every war since 1950? Well, other than Korea. The Chinese didn't get the SKS until 1956 and the North Koreans didn't get them until after that. Supposedly some Soviet "advisors" had SKS's in Korea, but not in combat. |

Every war since 1950? not quite, more since 1956 They were used by Soviet Troops in the Budapest Uprising for sure |

Quoted: I know the SKS saw extensive action in Vietnam. What other wars was the SKS rifle used in? First used in late 1944 in Byelorussia. Based on experience in 1944-45, the SKS was improved and entered production in early 1946. |

I'd be surprised if it wasn't in use by commies in the Rhodesian Bush War.

All of them.
Rhodie Bush War, Mozambique, Angola, Vietnam, Cambodia, probably most of the stuff in Latin America, the Yugo wars, most everything in the Mideast, etc. |

It has yet to be seen how many wars it will be used in, hell the Turkish Mausers are still being used in Afganistan. even some Lee Martini's.

I can't think of a tougher semi-auto rifle, and the SKS is chambered in one of the most widely available calibers on earth. It's going to be around and in use for a long while.

It's amazing how many older guns are still around and being used in combat. Didn't we find some WWI vintage cannons and machineguns being used against us in Iraq? |

Are they still being made anywhere? Are the Chicoms still making them? Or did they stop when they couldn't export them to the US civy market anymore? |

I don't know about cannons and machine guns, but I had a lot of old small arms come through my captured enemy weapons inventory. There was a lot of WWII stuff (PPShs, Mausers, a rusty hulk that used to be a MG42), but the oldest marked gun I had was a 1912 Lee Enfield. There may have been something older. This was in Eastern Baghdad in 2008.

I don't know for sure, but I'm not sure that they have a reason to build them anymore. Wiki says there's 15,000,000 SKSs already out there, and as I said above, I'm pretty sure they're going to be around for a while.

My father in law carried one in Cambodia back in the '70's. He wants one now, a Chinese or a Russian with a bayonet. I want to get one for him for Christmas this year.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't in use by commies in the Rhodesian Bush War. It certainly was, to include the Yugo version. Apparently some of the terrorists failed to realize that grenade blanks were needed for launching grenades, with catastrophic results. The SKS was one of the more common weapons encountered and there are photos out there of Rhodesian troops holding captured SKS carbines. |

Same with the South African border war from 75-88 on the Swapo side. I'm sure the Portuguese encountered them in Mozambique and Angola. Sure to have been used in the Angolan civil was as well. Then the Koreans in the LA riots of course. |
