Silva vs Bonnar?

WTF, I know it's not a title fight but, Bonnar...

How did he get the match?

ETA:

I wanna see Jones in there instead!!

There is not one scenario where I see Bonnar even remotely coming close to winning that fight

Its what Dana calls a "fun" fight.

All it takes is one lucky punch.

Only question is how long Silva wants to carry Bonnar.

Bonnar gets KO/TKO in short order....................unless of course Silva plays cat/mouse with him.  Either way, the end will be swift for Bonnar when Silva decides to end it.

+1, I see this as a warmup fight in the 205 Div. for Silva, but in the same breath he's already had those with Irving and Forrest

This fight makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I haven't seen Bonnar have a decent fight in a long time so I'm confused as to how he landed this fight, but so is everyone else.

Isn't he moving up in weight class?  I'll be curious how it works out.  I think they are trying to work out a silva vs. jones fight.

He has gone through the rank and file, Dana will have to do a "catch weight" fight of GSP and Silva.....I wont pay for a PPV fight until then....Or as someone else said, Jones, but I heard Silva say in a interview that he does not want to fight Jones.....I am sure his mind could be changed with a little $$$$

That's the only thing that makes any type of sense.  Throw some 205 patsies at Silva as warmups for JBJ.

Silva is a freak of nature, so he might do OK but most guys that try to move around in weight classes don't always do so well.  He'll need a few warm up fights to see what it's like.

JBJ would DESTROY Silva, Silva has nothing to offer him. JBJ has his kryptonite (outstanding wrestling) and then mix in superior striking.

Silva is plenty comfortable size/build wise in the 205 class.  He would likely make pretty quick work of the majority of the weight class, and already has dispatched a couple of them.  He doesn't wanna fight Jones because Jones is capable of delivering a freakin' ass whoopin.  Silva likes being looked at as the greatest fighter that ever existed.

I would love to see a Jones/Silva fight.

I would also love to see a GSP/Silva fight, either with GSP in the 185 class or at a catch weight.

Disgree here. Silva is the best the UFC has ever seen in my opinion. Jones would destroy Silva with elbows on the ground, after taking down the smaller man.

eta- either way, it ain't happening. When Silva beats GSP, he'll probably call it quits as the greatest ever.

While both those fights would be intriguing I think Silvas size and length would overwhelm GSP, GSP has made a living at being the bigger and stronger guy in a majority of his fights, and I just don't think he could hang with Silva

I don't think Bonners taking this fight seriously.  There's a commercial where he's asking Forest for advice and Forest has nothing so he calls Sonen.  I think it's more of a case of they needed someone to lead the card and someone rolled a dice.

I mostly agree.  I want to see it for a couple reasons.  GSP was my favorite fighter for a long time.  Like, since his debut in the UFC long.  He has gotten so good at being a technical fighter and not losing, it has made him boring.

He either needs to get beat, or he's gonna keep doing the same thing.  He is an impressive fighter, just not that much fun to watch anymore.  His wrestling is good enough that I think he might be able to grind out a victory from the top, even against a dude Silva's size.

If he can't, maybe he'll take a beating and get hungry again and start making exciting fights.

He (Silva) has already said he will be fighting GSP next, so long as Dana clears it. Dana, as is well known, has said he will give Silva whatever he asks.

Because Silva has just run through every other 205er in the UFC...running out of victims, I mean contenders.

Silva took the fight in order to save the card. Both Aldo and Rampage pulled out of their fights. They would possibly have needed to cancel the card, if Silva hadn't taken the fight.

Gsp got boring after getting Ko'd by Matt Serra, he decided after that fight not to take anymore chances.

This is the reason this fight is happening. Silva didn't want a card to be cancelled in his native Brazil, so he took this fight.

Awesome illustration of my point.
Kos was blind in one eye and had Zero counter for anything GSP was doing on his feet but... he took no chance and didn't try to get a blind in one eye Kos out of there.
He broke Kos's orbital bone in the 1st round, ee kept throwing the same jab at Kos for 5 rounds becoming the 1st guy in the UFC to jab his way to victory....

so let me get this straight...he broke the challenger's face, then avoided kos's strong right hand for the duration of the fight and that makes him boring? sounds like a champion's strategy to me...GSP's problem is he hasn't been technically challenged in ages, not that he's boring.

also, Silva knocked out Griffin with a fadeaway jab, so there's that.

Are you really making the case that 5 rounds of jabbing and running is exciting?
This isn't boxing...

I'm no GSP fanboy. I just think calling him boring is a little over the top. I think the welterweight class is the worst in the UFC. That's the problem.

Yes, a defensive strategy for 4 rounds when you should press the offense is not interesting. That Fitch is boring is universally accepted in the MMA world.

I might just buy this damn thing. After Rampage/ Texeira fell through I was bummed.

I want to see Eric Silva against a top WW. (yeah I know what Hendricks did to Fitch, but still)

Prado vs Davis. I think Davis has been overrated. Prado looks tough, I've heard he is no joke, let's see.

Texeira looked mean in his UFC debut, I want to see more.

Bones couldn't finish Bonnar. Could be a nice violent main event. Spider wins of course.
