Is the Gopro Hero 2 worth the extra 170 bucks? Since they have the original Gopro Hero on sale for about $130.
I would use it on mountain bike rides, etc..

We've got one that we blew up and it still works.  Unfortunately the blast interupted the recording.

I own both.  Both are great.  The Hero2 is worth the money.

I want a Gopro,  but i don't do anything cool enough to film.

What comes first having a gopro or doing exciting stuff?

You could get a Midland XTC 200 or 300 for way less. Only difference is the XTC's don't take pics. The XTC 200 is $75 at Walmart and it records in 720.

It gives you an excuse to go do exciting stuff so you can record it.

Only had the 2.  Just took it to manatee springs today.  Love it with the dive housing.

The other only difference is that the HERO 2 records in 1080p at 30fps

I have a Hero 2, a friend has a contour HD - The GoPro records slightly better video, but the contour has better mounting options by far. If I had to do it again I'd get the Contour.

Be careful, it gets expensive. I bought strikemark mounts for my guns. One on the Tavor rail, p226 and 2 on the act. This isn't all of my accessories.

Pelican 1495, I got it from a Canadian retailer, optimal case and lights.. Used a razor to cut the foam out.

Pretty sure the XTC 300 records in 1080 as well.

Here's the test video from my 720p XTC 200. I've been using it all summer for my rides and I couldn't be happier.

My friend hooked up the original and the 2 in the same location on his motorcycle. The difference was night and day. The footage from the 1st gen was almost unwatchable it was so bad. There is no question get the HERO2.

I have both and a pair of Contours.

The GoPro 1 is 90% of the GoPro 2. That extra 10% is a bit sharper and better low-light performance. The majority of HD stuff on the Internetz isn't (full/true)  HD and is exciting because of its content, not it's beauty.

I bought the 2 so that one day in the far future there will be a WiFi connection to my iPad.

The wifi backpack will connect to an iPhone/iPad.

The GoPro2 has better quality and less jello and skew than the 1st one.

Love mine.
