This.

Godspeed, Neil.

The first to go where none had gone before. It's a shame we've seen the end of that era of American greatness and the American drive to better ourselves

The sailors are wearing dress white and she's wearing capri pants and a baseball cap. Inappropriate attire.

The Squids are all dressed sharply....and uncomfortable.   I would think the family would dress a lil better than capris and a t shirt......unless they are normally so informal......

But still, its a rather high profile event.

It's her husbands funeral, pretty sure she can wear whatever she wants. If you want to talk about inappropriate things, we can start with criticizing a woman for what she wore to her husbands funeral.

Shipboard corridors can be very tight. That said, she COULD have dressed a little more 'formally.'

She was far more formal at the funeral.

Thanks for the post KA3B.

As to the family, they can wear what they wish. It is their kin who's remains were committed to the sea, not yours. As for the Navy personnel, they are wearing dress uniform. They would wear the same at even a state funeral.

I am not up on burial at sea procedures but when they did the ceremony, were they at anchor? Or is part of such procedures to be able to fly the flag from the stern while underway?

There was a guy who called into NPR. As a kid his parents took him on a cruise to see some kind of eclipse. Armstrong was one of the speakers. He said Armstrong and he got talking and that Armstrong was very down to earth and more than willing to take the time to talk to a young boy interested in science .

People think of Madmen when they think of that era, but it was men like Armstrong who were brave, squared away and calm under pressure who advanced science and held back the Communists.

That could be true My Mother has stipulated in her will no one is to wear black at Her funeral....Agian this is not the funeral that was weeks ago, this a burial at sea ceremony.

Having done one of these before with family present it was probably recommended that the family dress comfortably. There is a tendency for a lot of folks to get sea sick as they head out.

My Grandmother had us all wear aloha shirts to her funeral.  She lived in Hawaii from 1929 until her death.

Really have much respect for Neil and not going for humor, but something seems odd about the fact that nearly 40+ years ago his biggest fear was being burnt to ashes and falling into the ocean...
