Good movie or the meh? What say ARFCOM. |
|
crap...unless you are 13yr old girl.
Lets take the story "The Lottery", combine it with "The Most Dangerous Game", make it about kids, and throw in a little post apocalypse for good measure. There was absolutely no originality and the move was completely predictable after the first 6 minutes. Why did I see it? Against my will, I went because my girlfriend paid to take my kids.... |
|
Book was much better. I felt the movie, while good, left a lot out. Katniss was portrayed quite a bit differently in the book. The book is first person perspective, so you're inside her head. The movie, you don't get that cold calculating stuff, along with her occasional actual confusion in certain situations.
The second book, I lost interest about halfway through. |

Name some recent original movies..... I liked it. |

Those are two of my most favorite short stories |

Don't forget "The Long Walk" and "The Running Man." Is there no original ideas left? Hell, even J.K. Rowling ripped off Terry Pratchet. |
| To me it seemed like Hollywood brainwashing of kids to a socialist society. I literally felt bad after watching it. People that have no interest in standing up for themselves and let the govt crap on them and their children die because they wont do anything. I kept waiting for people to revolt and kill Sutherland and maybe Harrelson for good measure. Save your $ |

And you know of course that this movie is the first of 3 books right? What do you suppose happens in the next 2? |

Yeah I know it's a series, no clue what happens in the others, didn't really know what to expect from this one even though. |
| The books weren't even that good in my opinion. I could never get over why anyone would play. It's just a sensationalized game of survivor. The last book and a half were a snooze. It shouldn't be more than one sequel. How much movie can you make over a silly girl torn between two lovers. |

I read the books before I saw the movie, and the movie was "meh" IMHO.
In the book, there is more depth and you find out why Katniss does things. Example-*spoiler* Katniss plays up the whole Romance thing to get Sponsors and get the things she needs, which is not explained in the movie. Also Haymitch(Woody Harrelson's character) has a much stronger presence and you learn why he is a drunken mess. And on..and on.. The series is not brilliant by any means. It at least has some themes(The Danger of Oppressive Government, Self Reliance, the way Media manipulates the masses, etc) that might cause a teen to think and the books could be a good stepping stone to better Dystopian writing like 1984. |

I think I read on this board words to the effect of grand hypocracy:
Remember the internet sensation KONY the African warlord getting kids to serve in his Army?? The OUTRAGE and social angst that caused?? Well guess what blockbuster movie opened to rave success at that same time?? Yep- Hunger Games - a movie about kids fighting and killing each other for entertainment. But everyone thought that was marvelous entertainment... I think that is funny as hell. Never saw the movies though. 4073 |
