My cabinets are going in tomorrow and I'm in need of counter tops, so... Looking at the usual suspects granite, Corian and Silestone, anyone have constructive input on what to go for or avoid.

I'm cheap.

Laminate.

Granite.  Laminate sucks, only benefit is cost.

I went with the Corian a couple of years ago. Just couldnt swing the extra $ for granite.

Im more than satisfied with it.

Around my parts, Corian and granite are nearly identical in cost.

Here too, I was going to use Corian as an alternative. Looking at quartz now, my GF sent me a picture of one that was the color I wanted.

OP: if you plan on selling your house/want to make it more attractive to a future buyer, go with granite. That is the advice from real estate and builder friends.

If the price was close, the granite guys were truly hosing you.

Pre fab granite comes from Italy and China. It comes in the standard sizes and edges. I went with thick granity for my residence, but don't have a problem with the others.

We redid the kitchen a year ago.  We preferred the look of granite, so that's what we went with.

Go granite, just choose a darker color and be sure to seal it really well.

Granite, but something with interesting coloration and veining, not the lower-end speckled brown/tan or black that 90% of people get.

My dad being a mason, we always had granite. The dust has a distinctive smell, reminds me of my youth.

Great stuff, essentially indestructible.

And if you get the right granite it doubles as a microwave

Interested too as we're hoping to replace ours soon. I like the pattern of granite better than most examples of quartz I've seen, but keep hearing it's more low maintenance. I hear granite needs to be sealed periodically, but one dealer says that now it only has to be done one time after installation and it's good.

Came across that while I was shopping for kitchen upgrades.  Figured the kitchen can be radioactive as long as the recliner isn't, I'll be ok.

We've been putting a lot of silestone in lately. Its become quite popular in both colors and price. The stuff is harder than a wedding dick!

Granite is nice, marble is nice but both are $$. If you have a "busy" household, they chip fairly easily.

This !!!!  I actually did our kitchen and I wanted Quartz .  Already sealed and depending on manufacturer can have some depth in the stone.

QuartzITE.

Best thing I've done.  This stuff looks awesome and is indestructible.  And it's natural.  I just wish I had enough money to do more of my kitchen in the quartzite, instead of the granite.  The whole island would have been quartzite if I could have swung it.

This particular one is Palomino, also known as Stone Wood.  It looks damn near radioactive with the enhanced sealer on it!

I did tile and I am happy with it.
Here is an old dinner pic with the counter in it.
