Yesterday, I was at convenience store/gas station buying some seeds for my Son's football game. A black lady came in and asked the cashier if they accepted EBT card and the cashier responded "YES" Here is my gripe.... Maybe this fuckin ghetto hood rat and her loser boyfriend might have some fucking money if they didn't buy overpriced food at a convenience store!!! Fuck, you can but almost a whole 6 pack of Soda/pop/coke at a grocery store for the price of two or three bottles/cans at the gas station. I think there should be the Federal law that limits EBT cards use to only grocery stores, these people might not need EBT cards if they learned how manage thier fucking money. Rant over |

i think we need to get rid of it and hand out rice and beans to the ones that are hungry Seriously, EBT should not be able to be used at gas stations. It should not be able to be used to purchase oreos, chips, pizza, $8/serving frozen meals, etc... Drives me crazy. I believe you can even buy cooking wine with EBT. |

I would say that most of these disinfranchised individuals would not pass the background check to get into my building. |

Odds are VERY high that there are systematic reasons why they're on EBT in the first place, and being financial wizards isn't one of them. |

I've been saying that for a while. Make it something nobody wants, but will be plenty to keep them alive, and you solve every problem with it. It's a safety net for starvation, not a damn hammock! |
| i think the ebt cards for welfare type funds should be like a gas station key. great big freakin 4 foot by 2 foot card so EVERYONE would know what it was. guess how fast some of these people would get jobs, make it so they have to call in or reaffirm weekly as well. |

i think we need to get rid of it and hand out rice and beans to the ones that are hungry I grew up on welfare and gubment surplus food. Dad hauled ass when I was 7 and there were 3 of us for my mother to feed. Most of the food was crap by today's standards but we made it. All three of us kids hated that shit and we vowed to get off of it as soon as we could. All three of us are now quite successful and have not had to rely on handouts since highschool. Yes you damned right rice and beans will get most of them off their sorry asses. EBT affords the bastards prime rib and jumbo shrimp and they don't lift a finger to get the money. They ain't going to work no matter what as long as they get their card refreshed every month. |

I work at a convenience store. We DO NOT accept EBT. I own a convenience store. We DO NOT and WILL NOT take EBT. I don't agree with the system at all, and quite frankly don't want that kind of trash in the store anyway. This is the correct attitude. |

That's 3 of us that managed to get off the tit. |

You're trying to cut out the union jobs paying a "living wage" and give them to non-union people in exchange for beans and rice? What are you, some kind of revolutionary?

Quoted: My father always told me: "There's a reason poor people are poor, they're stupid, and you can't fix stupid." There's also a reason homeless people are homeless! My family tried for a year to get a homeless guy back on his feet. That guy had it MADE - free room and board indefinitely until he got a job and an apartment - and he blew it! Completely! He's back to wandering the streets of San Antonio as a total loser. |

i think we need to get rid of it and hand out rice and beans to the ones that are hungry i agree, and maybe seeds and gardening hand tools, so they can grow their own shit from then on out. they'll have to start working, one way or another They can buy seeds and garden plants with food stamps/EBT. But gardening is a hell of a lot more work than going to 7-11 for cheetos. |

My wife used food stamps and assistant's after her ex husband left her high and dry with a 2 month old, she used it to go to school, get a nursing degree, and is now making 70k year. |

How are people going to learn to cook home made meals at home. Who's got that kind of time? That would take too much time from trying to figure out how to work and program their smart phones! |

I've gone from $125,000 per year to being on EBT. Horrid divorce, lost executive level job, unemployment was peanuts, trying to care for my 4 kids full-time, can't even get a night gig @ applebees waiting tables; this is a shit market even for someone like me willing to do absolutely anything. When you have a brain and can speak clearly, no one will hire you to be a fry cook as you'll simply quit when something better comes along. I've paid tens of thousands of dollars into the system and while taking a penny back was difficult, I look at my 4 kids and it's easier now. Should it be limited to the fresh food basics, yes! I can buy anything, including $8 per gallon Blue Bell ice cream, with my card. With that said, I am also not able to have WIC as there is no "MIC" for men and 3 of my kids are under 4 years old. Shit happens and even though I saved and saved, divorce isn't always fair. I have the kids, she has the money. I used to think like many of you regarding EBT; easy to say until you're in the situation and have no choice at the present time. Difference between me and the majority is I want off, I want my job and life back; the doll sucks because you are very limited in what you can do. |
|
Quoted: free .gov money dispersed to private businesses is a bad idea It puts two on the .gov tit instead of just one. True for food, healthcare, etc etc This is what scares me. I've wondered how much money is spent by corporations to get candy bars, soft drinks, chips etc. added to the list of approved items. Coca-Cola or Wal-Mart would be stupid to lay down and watch the EBT sales disappear without raising a finger. |

I don't have a problem with a TEMPORARY system that helps people get thru bad times ( like the owe-bama economy ) but I do have a problem with multi-generational leaches that have never produced anything and probably never will. We shouldn't be subsidizing the breeding of the least productive people in our society. |

My wife had to have surgery during her pregnancy, she woke up with no feeling from her waist down. It ended up being some kind of reaction, but it took 3 months before she could walk on her own. I had to quit my job with two kids in the house to take care of her. I did work online when I could, but it wasn't enough. We used food stamps for several months until she was better and I went back to work. I don't have a problem with the principle, but there need to be strings attached and a limit on what you can buy. The funny thing is, you can buy expensive ice cream, but a $4 chicken from the deli? No way! Hot food is bad for you! |

Imagine what kind of lobbying WM does to keep that spigot open? |

Quoted: I have a cousin that owns a liquor store physically connected to the 'food mart' they also own.Quoted: I believe you can even buy cooking wine with EBT. Around here some of the liquor stores have a few isles of food goods and call themselves food marts. I have never seen anyone use their EBT for anything other than booze there... Family rumor is EBT is 50 cents on the dollar for beer and tobacco, 25 cents on the dollar for hard liquor. ![]() |

The C Stores around here advertise they take EBT w/huge banners. |

I see the difference between you and many other EBT users as this. You will work to turn that situation around (and I'm sure you will). This is not a lifestyle choice for you and those like you. You are not gaming the system and a s a mater of fact, the type of situation the program was designed for. Yes, you can buy the ice cream and Cheetos for your four kids, but I bet that's not the case in this scenario. Good luck to you! |

i think we need to get rid of it and hand out rice and beans to the ones that are hungry thats how i feel about it. you should only be able to buy the cheaper basic brands of staples............. rice, beans, milk, coffee, tea, bread, vegetables, and basic meat, chicken, ground beef, and such. it should not be able to be used to purchase candy steaks redbull energy drinks soda chips cookies etc its supposed to help you feed yourself, and get thru the month, with a healthy meal. its not supposed to let you buy junk food, and expensive energy drinks and steaks and lobster. if all you could get were basics, it would not be nearly as appealing to have one, and it would encourage you to make some money to buy your beer, cookie, chips, and other junk foods. |

i think we need to get rid of it and hand out rice and beans to the ones that are hungry This. I got into it with a family member over this. It was around the time when there were all those stories about people bragging that they had purchased lobster, steak and other similar items as well as buying good food and selling it off for pennies on the dollar. I was bitching about them eating better than we do because we're broke from having to pay for that stupid shit and posited that food assistance programs should be limited to staples (rice, beans, lower grade meat, etc). She's a relatively conservative person but she was going on about how if there's one thing someone shouldn't be in this day and age in this fine country it's "hungry" and feds, state, someone else, etc. shouldn't have the right to tell someone how to spend their food dollars. While I agree that nobody should need to stave to death here, no amount of talking would convince her that that it's not their food dollars, it's everyone else's tax dollars. The system is totally broken. Why are we giving them money at all? The solution to a lack of food isn't to give them money, it's to give them food. I understand that the logistics of taking rice, beans, etc. to every low-income person on food assistance would be pretty much impossible, but, if we're going to be giving out anything, what's the problem with giving out vouchers that can be redeemed at certain places for certain items only? If I'm not mistaken, aren't there programs that are (were) like that but they keep expanding the places and items more and more to the point where abuse is rampant? |
It will give millions incentive to become rich!
