In the Batman (Nicholson) movie, why were no police helicopters sent to the Cathedral?

They managed to set up spotlights, but no helicopters?

Sure, there were riots and nerve gas attacks to attend to, but the Commissioner, Batman and more than a few cops were on hand.  The criminal that had staged it all was present.

And he was the only one who thought to have a helicopter sent?

Batman has twin M1919's mounted on the Batmobile.  It's not A movie.  It's THE movie.

Fenders weren't wide enough.  Gotta maintain that Batman style.

IMHO, that is THE batmobile.  I saw a graphic that had EVERY batmobile (comics, TV and movies).

That one is the Best.

Joker stopped there after the batwing dispersed his balloons, he wasn't going to the cathedral, it was just near the parade route. after Batman wrecked his show, he had to escape somewhere.
Gotham Police were tied up with crowd control most likely for the parade, limited resources etc. by the time they set up a cordon, recon, spotlights, at the cathedral, the Joker, Vicky and Batman were all well inside the tower.

Its the dialogue...and the interaction between the characters...the newer ones seem to be about drama with little decent dialogue or characters...

it was a real dark movie, the setting, the characters, very ominous..i don't recall the sun being out in any of the scenes. but elfman's score combined with the natural wildman that is Jack Nicholson made quite the pair. it's always been one of my favorite movies. and the batmobile? fucking badass just cause it was very low profile for such a tank of a vehicle.

HE STOLE MY BALLOOONNS!!!
