About the only thing left standing from the photo in 1990 that I can see in the 2010 pic is the building in the foreground at the lower left with the tri-anguler peak roof (its lit up green in the lower left of the more modern pic) and the structures to the left and attached to that.    Just the amount of additional surface they created across the water is amazing.

That's crazy ass growth.

At one time in the 1990s, something like 1/10th of all the construction tower cranes in the world were in Shanghai.

The waterfront on the near side of that photo is called "The Bund"; most of the buildings there were built in the late 19th and early 20th century by the Brits, French, and Americans, and are still there:











Shanghai is a very cool city to visit.
