Stupid question. A friends daughter just got arrested for shoplifting. CPS has her son at this time. She's a LVN. Will she lose her state nursing license over this?

Probably

Pretty sure they do a criminal back round check every year

I have seen M.D.s get arrested for a lot worse and still not have their license yanked.

She has to report it to the licensing body for that state and she may face some form of repramand from them also.

At least that is the way they do it in WV.

Probably not so much looseing the license that's the problem as getting fired when you don't pass the yearly criminal back round check at work
Doctors are harder to fire obviously

She will report it to the board and they will decide. Her crime wasn't one of the many that require her license to be automatically suspended/terminated. However, probably doesn't mean much since she will probably lose her job.

No, she won't.  I know people with RN licenses and DUI charges, so shoplifting won't matter.  She will have to disclose it to the board when she renews the license, though, and failure to do so will almost guarantee her problems in the future.

She will definitely expect a reprimand of some kind but full revocation is doubtful at least at first.

Yup just depends on how anal they are about keeping BG's current.....Stupid fucking move and a waste of an education

ETA:  Might survive it with a formal reprimand and or suspension.  If it's her first and only arrest she'll plead First Offender and in 5 yrs get her record esponged and be ok........(yeah I fucked the spelling)

Asked Mrs. Smith, BSN.  "Depends on the state I'd guess.  Might be for the best though, nobody's hiring them anyway."

Ouch.

In Cali she would get anything from a warning from the board to a suspended license, immediately stayed with probation, depending on her attitude in front of the board.

It'll have to be reported. Might not lose her license, but could very well lose her job. Might be hard to find work again with a shitty reference.

It is the same as an LPN.

Licensed Vocational Nurse

I believe it's:
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
LVN - Licensed Vocational Nurse
RN -  Registered Nurse

LVN is the same thing as a LPN.

This is the forum to ask the question at or perhaps read a little: http://allnurses.com/nursing-licensure-criminal/

Wait... Who's the nurse? The friend, or the friend's daughter?

There is a very different stick by which nurses are measured versus doctors. Just a small for instance: Doc orders wrong drug for you, it interacts with another and you die? Nurse likely to lose license for not catching the Docs screwup and Doc slapped on wrist and facing malpractice, but keeps right on working.

CPS doesn't usually take a child out of a home over a shoplifting charge
There is more she is not telling you

She will get some kind of action on her license.
She will be unemployable in all but worst jobs.  Nursing home maybe.

We had a girl hired on already waiting for start date to roll around.  Got a DUI
jobs gone.

If she reports herself to her Board of Nursing then she will likely receive some type of discipline or censure, if she tries to hide it and the Board discovers this then they will remove her license altogether.

Crimes of an immoral or fiscal nature are judged very seriously in nursing considering the vulnerable nature of our patients.

Only true if the nurse knowingly administered a medication that he/she knew was the wrong med, and knew there was a potential for interaction.  And trust me, depending on the screw up, the doc will face much more than simply a slap on the wrist...
