I has them.

What's a good, effective, inexpensive way to get rid of them?

I just moved into a new house a couple weeks ago. There a several dead areas and push mowing the yard for what grass i do have has became quite the chore. The wheels are constantly sinking into the dirt.

Are you sure they are gophers? Or are they Moles?
Gophers need these

I use these very effectively for moles. Not sure if they would work for gophers.

We used this at my Dad's place.  It was very effective and, of course, pretty damn cool.  Watch out for escapees though; don't want flaming gophers running around.

Hungry cat is all that really works!

True Value sells smoke bombs that work well.

Next spring plant a bunch of Castor beans.  Gophers will eat the roots and die.

Don't forget to save some of your seeds for the next year.

Just went and watched the rodenator video...good tunes to go with the video.
Sure it would work but looks like it would tear hell out of your yard.

Smoke bombs or a good hungry cat.

Go to your local animal shelter and get the scrappiest young female cat you can find.  Get her spayed and vaccinated, and keep her in at night.

It may be moles. I haven't seen the fuckers, nor have I'd had to deal with either before

The traps are highly effective, and minimaly invasive. I can catch the perp within 24 hours of seeing the first mound. I'd also suggest some granular insectiside to eliminate the food source, wich is why they are there in the first place.

+1 to old fashioned gopher traps

Stake the chains too ( at least hook the chien to a stake of wood so they cant pull the trap into the tunnel deeper

Correct me if I'm wrong Sandy..if we kill all the golfers, won't we get arrested?

I've set out some traps, but they seem to avoid them. They also do not like the poison I set out either...

However, my Husky keeps digging up the tunnels, I guess he can smell them. Maybe that's why he randomly barks at the house...because there are some tunnels running along the side of the house that he cant get to due to the electric fence. He did dig one gopher out...I am surprised how aggressive gophers are..

Last night, he wouldn't stop barking. It was getting very aggravating because he is a fairly quiet dag. After I told him to STFU a couple times and gave him some doggie treats to calm him down, he still kept barking at one area in the yard. I go out with a flashlight thinking that he dug out another gopher...only this time is was a 2 foot Copperhead snake. I killed it a tossed it over the fence. I don't think my dag got bit. He hasn't been acting weird and I don't see any swelling. I guess my yard is a feast for venomous snakes, as my neighbors who live right next me do not have gophers or moles.

Get a dog.  We had gophers in the yard when we moved in in August 1979   By September the gophers had moved next door.  The neighbors had to deal with them.  we never had a gopher problem again.

Find some Fighting Sioux. The Gophers will get scared and run away to join another conference!

I suggest gopher traps.  I had problems in my last neighborhood with the gophers moving in from the neighbor's yard.

When I was a kid Id walk along the mole tunnels pushing them back down. Then stand there and watch that fucker come back through pushing it back up, when he got to me I jammed a spade into the ground until I figured he was either gone or dead. Push it all back down and repeat.

Its boring as fuck and you have to stand very still, but its quite pleasing when you do it. Especially if you pull the spade back and dig up the tunnel, and a half a mole comes with it. Lol

used to trap gophers all the time, their back leg was worth $1 the lady at city hall hated me

I know...but but my dag wouldn't shut up, and I didn't want him to get bit. If it wasn't poisonous, I wouldn't have killed it and moved it somewhere out of sight of my dag.
