Police yesterday arrested another soldier on suspicion of selling ammunition to the Palestinians, raising to seven the number of suspects detained in the case, Israel Radio reported.
The latest suspect, Eran Mulai, lives in Hebron and is the brother of one of the men already arrested in the case. Police said they found large amounts of ammunition in his home.
Mulai was doing his three years of compulsory military service in the Border Police. The other suspects are also current or former members of the security forces.
So far police have arrested two Palestinians, two civilians, and a number of soldiers in the case on suspicion of selling thousands of bullets and other army equipment to the Palestinians.
Police have said that they believe the suspects sold some 50,000 bullets for M-16 automatic rifles to members of the Tanzim.
Most of the soldiers arrested are residents of the settlement of Adora in Judea.
Two Palestinians, one from Hebron, the other from nearby Tarqumiye, have been arrested on suspicion of buying the ammunition. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and none of the suspects has yet been charged.
