I'll be flying out this weekend for the first time since well before 9/11. Should I expect any trouble if I carry my Fenix TK-15 light in my carry-on? Never had to deal with all this foolishness before.

I tried looking it up but wasn't sure what kind of battery it takes.

If it's a lithium battery, they may not allow it if they want to stop it...but alkaline should be fine.

I fly with a Streamlight Stylus Pro all the time; also a Photon II on my key ring.  Never had any issues in over a dozen countries.  Previously I've flown with a Surefire E2 but didn't want to take the risk of some goon confiscating it for his collection and the Stylus puts out plenty of light for a compact $20 flashlight.

Corrected the flashlight model.

I have flown with my Fenix P2D and never had a problem.

No problem.

Of course, within 5 minutes, you'll get some GD homunculus who'll tell you that he drove from Waxahachie to Jakarta for the weekend, just because he didn't want to deal with the TSA.

So, take it for what it's worth.

I've carried a P2D on every flight for years.  Never been questioned.

As long as it's not one of the flashlights that is designed as a standoff type i.e. the Surefire Defender series, or some huge head-knocker you should be good to go.

I spent some time on the TSA website checking out "prohibited items" and "special items" and it looked like I was G2G, but I'm also aware of TSA's reputation for violating their own regs or just being ignorant about them. Just wondering if anyone has been hassled by the goons for no good reason.

Lithium batteries are supposed to be ok if they're in your carry on (not your checked bags). In the past lithium batteries were a no-go altogether.

I fly quite often and haven't run into a problem yet although you may run into a TSO that isn't up to date on the change even though it's a couple of years old (shocking I know).

(FTR: My wife is one of those evil TSA employees, she's had to correct a couple of TSOs about the change)

no problem.  I carry stuff like OTC medicine, flashlight, change of clothes, phone chargers, toothbrush, contact solution and a pair of glasses in a small carry on when I travel.  Basically anything I could not do without if the aillines lost my luggage and then some.

I fly with a Fenix TA21 all the time in my carry on.   Never had a problem.  Usually put it in my leather brief case.

I've flown countless times with a Surefire E2DL and/or E1B in my carry on, along with spare lithiums. Never any issues.

I fly some 20 times a year to inspect construction sites.  Flashlights are a must.  Picked up one of these from DX.  Never has a second look from TSA.  My concern was more with the edge on the front.  No problems from various TSA locations all over the US.

Someone posted a TSA memo about the "fighting flashlights" with the crenalated tops. The last time I flew I went back to put my surefire in my stowed luggage and the TSA woman asked why. I told her and she asked to look at my flashlight, a surefire defender (although I switced the body to one that says executive). She asked why this was a problem and I told her you could bonk people with the kinda pointy end and she laughed and she would never bother taking one of those from someone. I do think it's a potential problem.

I think that fenix is theoretically prohibited or there was at least a memo. I don't have time to search for it now. Would you have a 99% chance of carrying it on, probably

Last time I flew(back in 2010) I had no problems carrying my Fenix P2D and spare CR123 batteries. The TSA gave me more greif about the can of Lotramin I had.

I've flown with a Fenix TK11 and a spare 18650 battery.  No issues here.

I did however have one TSA agent ask that I turn the light on for him after it went through the x-ray machine stowed in my backpack.

Always travel with a Surefire 6p.  I was once asked to turn it on.  That's it.

I have one of those Sams Club specials with a durable edge that takes AAA batteries.  While reentering FRA last summer, their security confiscated and asked me to go to the back with them.  I thought they were joking since they really wanted my bag of peanut M&Ms but after convincing, I went back to their special room.  I was afraid to cause any more problems because moments before the airport polce dressed in riot gear got upset because I tried to take a picture of them (big protest inside airport).

Ended up they only wanted to XRay and let me, my flashlight, and M&Ms go my merry way.  I didn't have any problems in the US airports.
