btw.... texas takes control over majority of shipping in the gulf, uses diplomacy with other nations for trade and to stifle attack from foreign nations. union can't afford to force texas into coooeration because they're still spending too much keeping all the bases all over the world open.....the rest of the nation continues to rush into texas as the better place to live....we just sigh, and say i told you so....

| I know we all hate owing the Chinese all the money we do, but the last thing China wants to do is "call in" all US debt. From their point of view it would be a catastrophe because all we would do is devalue the dollar, honor our debts and move on (dealing with the resulting hyper inflation would be another matter, but we always have this trump card, and the Chicoms know it). Texas and Arizona follow, only to have the NG of those states federalized as well. Half the troops threaten mass resignation if deployed. Small bands of citizens and police attempt to seal the Mexican border, only to be fired upon by fleeing Mexican armed forces, bandits and criminals from both sides of the border. The Governor of Texas proclaims insurrection as the border dissolves. This one is actually plausible, though it would be hell of a lot more than small bands of police and citizens on the border. Texas has approx. 73,000 law enforcement officers, it has the ability to field one of the largest army's in the world with fairly short notice, it could at the very least deploy a division 17 - 20k men on that border in weeks, without having to resort to deputizing and civilians in the short term. In th elong term it would not be a huge stretch to train and field many more in this role. We have a very underutilized resource of 18 - 45 year olds in this country. Edit: And tell me other Southern states would not pony up immediately with additional resources, we can at least count on each other. |
