| The crown moulding thread got me thinking about this––the window insert in my front door needs replacing. It is a metal door, I think, and the row of small windows near the top is fastened in with screws. The exterior moulding of the insert has warped due to the strong sunlight here in Colorado, and it looks as if the entire unit must come out and be replaced. Can a guy buy new inserts? What are they called? Any suggestions? Thanks! |
| I've never replaced one myself, but you would probably have to find out who made the door to get the replacement trim. Steel doors are made with high density foam sandwiched between steel. See if there are any markings on the sides/top of the door, otherwise you can either measure the existing trim / or take off the old trim and bring it in to one of the big box stores and match it with a door they have in stock, then see if you can order the part. |

It's called a door lite, and it is two halves screwed together usually. Wooden framed ones were sold by them selves but the manufacturer of your door should have replacements available. That's what I'm looking for, thanks! Having the proper name helps a lot. http://www.windor.com/Inserts-Four-Lite-Scallop.html I need to take some measurements and such. Thanks again. |
