My father, now deceased, apparently applied for and received some decorations he earned but never received from WWII. He must have gotten them , but all we can find are the empty cases.
Is there a procedure to request new ones?

His DD214 will list his awards, you can buy replacements online, just use google.

eta: his dd214 should be a current copy, after he was granted the awards. failing that, you can request a copy of his service records as next of kin.

I believe you can buy all of them from clothing sales except for the MOH.

Even better, use these guys:  http://www.ultrathin.com/buildrack.htm?gclid=CMzoh-uE27ECFUio4Aod4w8AoA

My Dad made that request recently with the assistance of the American Legion and they actually had an award ceremony (since he never got one in 1971) for his Bronze Star with V device, Air Medal, CIB, VN Service Medal and Natl Defense Medal.   Very cool that his family could be there to see it after over 40 years!

That is very cool.  Kudos to the American Legion.

My grandfather had a similar experience.  He was unaware that he rated a purple heart from wounds he sustained just prior to his capture during the Battle of the Bulge.  They were able to arrange for the CE Battlion CO to award it to him from Ft Drum which was cool because he served as a combat engineer during WWII. He had some seriously health problems but he stood as straight and tall as I had seen him stand in years when the LTC pinned the heart on him.
