I was out for lunch and ordered ice tea.  The young lass asked if I wanted sweet tea.  Of course I had to try it.  I was expecting something really good.  I fail to understand the popularity of this drink.  Maybe I'm not far enough south?

Sweet tea tends to be WAY TOO SWEET in all my territory (Mississippi around to Virginia), so I get unsweet tea and add my own sweetener if I'm so inclined.

I hate over sweetened tea as much as I hate trying to get sugar to desolve in cold liquid.

Sweet tea, yuck. I like my tea the same way I prefer my women. Cold, dark and bitter.

I rather get it unsweetened. If its a 16 oz cup I put about 1/2 a sweet n low in it with 2 squeezes of lemon. If its a 24 oz cup I put a whole one with about 3 or 4 lemons.

Good stuff.

This. For years my inlaws thought I was just crazy about Coke, because when we went out I always ordered it, and at their house that is what I drank. One day they were visiting us, and my FIL asked me if something was wrong, as he thought it unusual that I was drinking tea. I explained to him that I only drank Coke when I couldn't get good tea. I can't stand it over sweet, and I don't drink it unsweetened. Here in GA some restaurants get it right, most put way too much sugar in it.

ETA: When desperate for sweet tea and the place puts way too much sugar in it, what I do is fill the cup a third to half way with unsweet tea, then fill the rest with their sweet tea, that normally gives an acceptable drink. Trying to sweeten cold unsweetened tea is a fools errand.

This is available at most of our grocery stores in OK.  If you can find it you will thank me or hate me!  Kind of addictive.

Sweet tea is NOT the same thing as tea that is sweetened after it has been brewed.

So, you're talking apples and oranges ... just sayin'.

Any sweetteah i've ever had is about the same as kool-aid.  I'll sweeten my own tea and not etch my teeth and get diabetes with a glass thanks.

Sweet tea when properly brewed and precisely sweetened is superior to most beverages! It is easily screwed up if you don't know what you are doing or if you choose not to pay attention to the steeping process. The sugar should not be the main event, it should complement the flavor of the leaves and smooth the taste of the tea. When it is properly made sweet tea will provide the consumer with a pleasant taste often improved by the introduction of a lemon wedge. Well made sweet tea will leave an enjoyable aftertaste free of bitterness.

You know who makes some damn fine sweet tea?  Iraqis.  Those f-ers will make you drink it steaming hot when it's 110deg outside and after two shots of "chai" your hands are shaking lol.
It was like crack for me.

I've said this before, but Wilford Brimley would shit his pants if he had a glass of my sweet tea. I hate the concentrate stuff. Fresh brewed or bust.

Anybody who has been to a Sonny's BBQ before, their tea is good. Sometimes it's not sweet enough.

The rest of the day I drink water, to give my kidneys a break.
