As a diversion from my usual political postings, I want to say that I am so beyond happy that football season is back.
Sure, it's meaningless in the grand scheme of things. And half of the people who respond to this will be clever and post "panem et circenses." But my dad moved to the US in 1977 for medical school. He lived in NYC for a while and fell in love with the Giants. He remained an avid Giants fan until 1994 when Jacksonville got the Jaguars. He attended nearly every home game and many away games. He started taking me in 1995 when I was 12 and taught me the game. Even being in the stadium became something that represented only happiness––even when the Jags lost (they do that a lot). The economy may be crap. Our Liberty may be threatened like never before. But I get to go to a football game for a few hours every couple weeks and just have fun. So happy football is back. |

Very well said OP. One of the few simple pleasures in life. Those who "get it" wait for it every year. Those who don't say shit like "It's just a game."
My father worked as a police officer for a while when I was young. A fellow officer with whom he was friends was from Pittsburgh. He (the friend) would come over on Sunday's to grill/drink with my old man and watch football. Needless to say, when the Steelers were on it got entertaining. He took the time to explain the game to me and I fell in love with it and the black and gold. That was back in the late 70's and I have been a Steelers fan ever since. Even though my team made a lot of changes this year and I have little hope for the post season, I cannot wait for it to start. It truly stirs my soul. Hunting season and football season. Proof that fall/winter is undoubtedly the best time of the year! |

Go Steelers. +1 But wallace is asking way to much money. Yeah but as someone (think it was Jamie Dukes) said: Wallace needs the Steelers more than the Steelers need Wallace right now. They got Brown signed and Sanders isn't shabby by any stretch, plus Cotchery is pretty much the younger version of Hines Ward going over the middle. I was at Latrobe yesterday and a few things that jumped out at me: Leonard Pope is fucking huge, he had Miller standing next to him and Heath looked like a HS kid. Marquis Maze is even faster that he seemed when he was at Bama, short as hell but he is faaaaast. Adams and DeCastro didn't look like rookies, and DeCastro slammed that sled like it stole his lunch money then said something nasty about his momma. Ben looked to be in better shape for camp this year than he did last year, and his shoulder didn't seem to be bothering him on long throws at all. Yeah football doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it's good to have it back to take my mind off the really real world, which annoys me on a daily basis. |

Gonna be interesting to see if we run the ball more than the past few yrs. Need to trade mindy. Wish they would have given Ward another yr. |

As you should be. Stay strong. I'm born and raised in AZ, cards weren't here when I started watching football. I root for them when the Niners aren't involved. That superbowl run they made withe Warner was awsome. |

And the stadium is only open on game day, including pro shop. We had fun tailgating with the locals.... |

I also heard Colon is nasty since the move to LG and is blowing up DE's and ILB's any truth ? GO STILLERS Yeah Willie seems like he's GTG, he was really comfortable looking at guard and that guy is strong, overall the whole offensive line was looking pretty good. Like I said I'm betting Ben winds up taking a lot less sacks this year than he has for the past couple seasons. Oh and as far as losing people goes, well you never want them to lose people, but the Steelers sort of remind me of someone like Bama in that they don't rebuild, they just reload. There is a hell of a lot talent in their depth chart. There always has been defensively and at some positions on offense like HB, but now they have it across the board on offense, and even on the line, so they're in a pretty good position personnel-wise. I'm just hoping they keep Maze. He's short as hell yeah...but he can fly, he caught everything thrown in his general direction, and his special teams talent is well documented from college. Got my fingers crossed that he makes the cut. |
