Let's say I have 100 pieces of spent 30.06 brass. Call it once fired GI brass.
How much money would I spend to reload those cases with 150 grain FMJ projectiles (to include primers and powder) to roughly recreate M2 ball ammo? For argument's sake all required equipment is paid for, only take cost of powder, projectiles and primers into consideration. |

Primers are $28 to $32 per thousand. Gunpowder is $160 or so for 8 pounds. Figure about $25 per pound. There are 7000 grains of gunpowder in a pound. The load will use about 59 or 60 grains per cartridge depending on the gunpowder choice, maybe a little less, maybe a little more.

| You can usually buy primers by the 100, say about $4. $25 for a pound of powder and probably about $20 or so for 100 FMJ bullets. So about $50, but then you'll have some powder left over. Reloading saves money when you do it in bulk. DOing just 100 rounds won't save you much |

there are 7000 grains in a pond of powder. A pound of powder is about $23/lb. About $35/1k primer. Last I checked, bullets were about $16/100 Figure out your load and do the math. You can often break a case (1k) of primers and buy them in 100 primer increments. I asked my wife to pick up 300 Federal 210 primers to reload for my Arisaka. This would have lasted several years. She came back with "this big box, it was all they had." and now I'm set for life.
You can get 308 Cal - 147 Grain FMJ Lake City (Pulled) for $75, but you have to buy 500. Brassmanbrass.com |
