I especially like this part.

The purpose of the Bill of Rights was to protect and guarantee rights that were pre-existing for individuals, outside of any government system. It was not a way for government to "grant" people rights and some of the Federalists actually opposed the Bill of Rights, because they felt it was unneccesary to codify what should be obvious.  The purpose of the Federal Government was to protect the rights of the individual, not restrict them.

Um... Yeah. And according to folks like Jefferson and Mason, those Rights are those that "no majority may deprive them of"...



But what the hell do they know...

Honestly its not the governments fault since its what it does and what is at the core nature of what it is.  Much like the story of the Scorpion and the Frog  We as a nation are responsible for putting people in office whether due to individual greed or to outright ignorance.  Hopefully in the future once people as a whole or at least the majority wakes up "and if its not to late"  we can rebuild this once great nation back to its former glory.  what is frigtening is at the speed things are changing now, the America I grew up in really doesnt exist anymore and thats comming from a guy who spent the majority of his youth in either White plains, NY or right outside of Los Angeles, CA and im only 39.

That's what makes me fear it is irreversible. The same people calling for gun control are the people who produce nothing and want to take (yes, take) more of what the producers earn.

That is the America we are living in and the future doesn't look good.

A system of government that begins with a "T"... and historically results in millions of dead within its sphere of control.

Throughout history, governments have formed to protect the power and property of the powerful.  The rights of the peons were not even considered.

The United States is unique in that its government was founded on the principle that
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.––That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed
No longer was government established to protect the statis quo ante, it was there to protect the rights of individuals.

It's taken two hundred years, but human nature being what it is, and entropy being what it is, government has once again reverted to its traditional role of protecting the property and power of the powerful, and to hell with the rights of the peons.
