As of late, my wife's Ipad will go back to the home screen whenever she's searching the web. Usually just a few seconds after opening a page. There doesn't seem to be any issues with the wireless. I did the trick I read on online about opening the task bar and shutting down everything running in the background, which she had a lot of. That seemed to work for a day or so, but the problem started again. I rechecked the taskbar again for running processes, and that was okay. She has 13Gb of available memory. What am I missing |

Hold the home button and lock button until the screen turns off. Then do the same to turn it back on. Reboot it that way, and see if the problem continues. that is what I would do as well. If that doesn't work, go to the Apple store. They have been very helpful to everyone I have talked to that has used them. |

From the sounds of it, either Safari is crashing or running out of memory. If it were mine, I'd back it up and then restore it to factory default settings. I'd then check to see if the behavior continues after the fresh install. If the problem persists, I'd start talking to Apple about it. Let us know how it turns out. |

Depending on what version of iOS the device has installed, you either can update "over the air" via WiFi if it's connected to external power or connected to a computer running iTunes. If you start "Settings" and then "General" -> "About" look for Version. If it's less than 5, you will need to connect the iPad to a computer running iTunes in order to update the software. If it's 5, you can plug it into what you use to charge it normally and then choose "General" -> "Software Update" in Settings. Ask more questions, we'll help you. Edit: typing slow today ![]() |

What would run Safari out of memory, bookmarks? |

There is a IPad pdf. downloadable app manual. I'd suggest a total shut down holding the on/off button down till the screen goes black /w/a /apple on it also. Because ITS ALWAYS in sleep mode, unless you do this monthly. These are also supposed to be "synced" to your LT, or DT also. By plugging in the charging line after you remove the AC plug. <shrug> Shaking it upside down like a kids etch-a-sketch is also supposed to clean it somehow too if it locks up. |

Apple support is pretty good though, so it aint quite like throwing someone to the dogs like it would be with some other vendors. |

What would run Safari out of memory, bookmarks? Safari generally can get itself killed when it tries to have too many tabs open with lots of complex web pages. You haven't mentioned what generation iPad this is, my guess it's a first since they have much less RAM ( working memory ) than later generations. It may also be that you're running into some sort of Safari bug, updating will rule that out. Finally, you might be having hardware problems ( the RAM has developed an error, keeping you from using all of it ). That's when it's time to talk to Apple IMHO. |

is it running the most up to data software? go to settings, general, about.... scroll down to version.....let me know what it says... most up to date is 5.1.1 4.2.1 If I were you, I would update. Plug it into itunes and it should prompt you to download and install the update. |
