I went 51 miles on my Trek 4 series mountain bike (over 3 1/2 hours riding) on the road and I felt great last night. But today, oh man I am sore. I cycled my age in miles but man I need a road bike bad.

And what are some good recovery drinks and foods? Anyone?

Riding against the wind sucks.

I will say a skinny tire bike makes it much easier.  I have a Colnago.

As far as recovery goes: beer.

I am getting a Trek Madone in a few weeks so that will help me...I just pushed it too far yesterday. You know how hot it was down here in the Panhandle, and I was riding at 3:00 till almost dark. The last 10 miles were killer on highway 98 going against an east wind.

I just started riding a few months ago.

I bought a hybrid Schwinn. I find it very enjoying.

I've been riding faithfully for two years, I do about 80-100 miles a week..usually 20-30 miles each ride. It has been the best cardio and weight loss exercise I've ever done. I really love to ride.

I like chocolate milk as a recovery drink immediately after a long ride.

For 1.5 to 2.5 hr rides I drink Vitargo GenR8 during the ride.  For longer rides, I drink Hammer Perpetuem or Vitargo.  On longer rides, I also bring along a sandwich that has been cut into quarters.  Each quarter is wrapped in aluminum foil so that I can reach into my pocket, unwrap it with one hand, and eat it while riding.  Bananas or other fruit are also good.

After the ride, I drink whey protien mixed with non-fat milk and/or Hammer Recoverite.  Get a meal and lots of water as soon as possible after a long ride.

GU is a nutritional supplement that is intended to be used every x miles or every x number of minutes in order to keep some calories and carbs in you to keep you going.

I am a week into riding I drink a shit ton of water and eat hotdogs
Been doing 10mi a day 5 days a week, im at 52mi so far. Missed a day needed to take an extra day for "healing"

Right now i am just trying to build up some endurance and cardio for awhile then im going to hit some trails. I plan to do 30mi on a dirt path and 20mi on hardpack then every 2 weeks bump the ride length by 2-5 mi. till i can do 100+mi a week w/o a problem.

Good on you!

I try to stand up most of the ride. Actually, I'll go do that right now.
