So I want a fixed blade knife made in USA ) that I can carry in my Maxpedition Versipack with Janus extension. The Janus has a outside pocket it can be tucked in for quick access. Closest knife I found so far is the Gerber Epic but it's a tad too long ( 7 inches ) and it's imported.
Specs I want are these. No more than 6 inches long. Sheath to be put in. Made in USA. Tanto Blade. Anyone out there make such a beast? |

I have this Winchester fixed blade, comes with a sheath, and normally a nice handle, but instead I did the cobra braid on it and I think it looks a lot better, and it is technically a tanto blade.

Other then Glock field knives and Benchmade's HK series, if a knife has a gun company's name on it throw it into the nearest river.
Why do you want the tanto blade? Unless you're stabbing for penetration any other blade design will work better for whatever you are using it for. Get an Izula or Becker necker. The Becker may come in a lame-ass Americanized tanto, I don't recall off hand. |
|
Quality US made fixed blade UNDER 6" OAL and tanto is going to be hard.
Esee Izula is just over 6 and drop point. Benchmade Nimcub is almost 8, but tanto and sheathed. Under 6 for a fixed blade is getting you a very short cutting surface. May I ask your purpose for the knife? |

I agree, but after I sharpened this knife and put on the new handle grip it was a lot better knife, durable, sharp, comfortable. What more do you want |

I don't know about tanto blades but I do recommend any flavor of ESEE. I have two in my GHB and relly like them. Not sure about country of origin though... From their website: Our knives are made in the USA and backed by a 100 percent "NO QUESTIONS ASKED" warranty against all use and abuse.
They really are the fixed blade to get. |

Pull out of the janus extention which is right within reach and not having to dig through my edc bag. |

Scrapyard knives. Made in USA,a sister company of Busse Combat. Excellent steel. You can get it along with a kydex sheath for $60. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w204/madbodhi/Scrapivores202.jpg (From website)SCRAPIVORE: The Scrapivore is designed to be a "cutter" of the highest order. Steel: SR-101 Steel 60-62 RC Blade: 2 3/4" Long Overall Length: 6 1/2" Thickness: Approx: .150" This compact design allows for full four finger placement on the handle, even with large hands. The finger groove at the front of the handle is sufficiently deep enough to protect the finger from slipping up and onto the edge. The area of the edge in front of this is slightly rounded, offering additional protection as it keeps the cutting edge spaced away from the index finger. The butt is chisel ground for use as a mini prybar and offers an ideal spot for striking a ferrocerium rod. KYDEX SHEATH: The Kydex Sheath is made by Mashed Cat Outfitters. Thanks for the suggestion. I will check them out, This particular model is a little bit too long for my needs. |

You should check out Bark River knives.
They aren't cheap, but they are good quality, and made here in the USA. (Lifetime Warranty as well) As one other said, Scrapyard Knives, but let me expand on that. There are several companies in the Busse Combat family. (I think) Any one of them should do. |

You ever been to the classified section in the knifemaker's area on bladeforums? I've bought several handmade knives off there at really fair prices. Might take a few days, but it is not uncommon to see the kind of knife you describe on there. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/754-For-Sale-Fixed-Blades |

This is pretty darn close to your description:

I wound up buying this knife. $34.....made in USA, comes with neck sheath and I can add paracord to it fairly easy. Thanks to all those that helped. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Tops-Knives-Key-Knife-Neck-Bottle-Opener-KEY-A-KEY-A-/00/s/MTk1WDg1MA==/$(KGrHqV,!qUE88fkJvPiBPTs(DYZBQ~~60_57.JPG TOPS makes good stuff. They make them pretty close to here. I have 2 of their knives. No complaints. |
