I put an old beat up and worn out low end craftsman tool chest out to the road...  I just wanted the thing out of my garage.  I put a sign saying 20$ and you take the chest...

Just like I thought, someone stole it within 3 hours.

I saw this work before from an old man in my hometown.  I thought now who in their right mind would pay 75$ for a used refrigerator that he had for free the last 3 days... it was gone the next day... he never got the money and was laughing the whole time... Now it was my turn and I am LMAO the whole way from the road to the computer here.

You should have taken a crap in it first.

I have, well... Had a Optima red top battery that took a crap on me. I swapped the bad battery for a good one and decided to go to Home Depot for some lawn seed. I had the bad battery in the back of my truck since I was going to take it to the recycling center on my way to work the next day. I decided to see what would happen if I just put the bad battery on my tailgate and went about my shopping inside Home Depot....
Anyone want to guess what had happened when I got done with my shopping?

Someone took the battery and left a 50.00 bill under your wiper blade?

Me and my neighbor ( that just passed away last week, RIP) put out old burnt out water heaters by the road at both of our houses. It took about 4 hours for someone to stop to take mine, but they left my neighbors.

I did the same thing once.    Put a sign that said free to good home on  a BBQ grill, set it out by the road.   After two days my FIL said I should put a for sale sign on it.   It was gone the next morning.

Anything I leave on the curb disappears quickly, sign or no sign.

Take something that is worthless or garbage and you need to get rid of and place it in a large box.  A paper towel or toilet paper box that is free from a grocery store usually works.  Buy about $2 of wrapping paper and a bow.  Wrap the item in the box and go to the store.  Leave it on your trunk or on the tailgate.  Go somewhere close by, like a cart corral, and watch like the car isn't yours.  Watch in amusement as theives snag the box and are ultimately disappointed.  Walk back to your vehicle before they can bring the item back.  That is a satisfying $2 you spent on the wrapping supplies and you pissed off a thief.

I did the same thing with some old doors when I remodeled my house. Gone the same day.

The tweakers do that around here all the time.  I've even felt gentlemanly enough to help them load an old A-frame swingset into the bed of their over-loaded truck one evening.  They like copper, but steel is a second favorite.
