You anger fire gods And, why is it they always want to throw virgins in volcanoes? I wonder if they experimented with various groups, like old haggard women or gay dudes, or if they went straight for the virgins. Also, did they try various items like rocks, pineapples, grapes, or again went straight to the human sacrifice. |

Sacrificing virgins is a way to make young women put out. Duh!

Wait a minute...the video title says "Eruption after person falls in lava lake of vol..." Nobody fell in. No but it gets more people to watch the video. It's a much more enticing title than "throwing a bag of garbage in a volcano". Nobody ever said everything on the internet was true

Anybody know what makes it do that? Why all of a sudden does the lava start bubbling up like that? The garbage is being burned, and the organic gasses that are released cause bubbling. The lava is VERY hot, so it's releasing those gasses fast. Wouldn't that stuff get vaporized pretty quick on the surface? You wouldn't think that a bag of garbage would sink down very since the molten rock is much, much denser than a bag of trash. |

Anybody know what makes it do that? Why all of a sudden does the lava start bubbling up like that? Looks to me like the trash bag broke the seal on a positive pressure environment. The gases dissolved in the molten rock were kept in solution by the extra pressure from the cap of solidified lava. Breaking the seal was enough to cause the gases to start evolving from solution, and that churned things up enough to cause some circulation. Once the circulation began, it brought up some slightly deeper lava to the surface where it bubbled also since it was under less pressure near the surface. Etc. etc. Very cool video. |

The reaction stirs it up, basically burying it and mixing it up in the lava. If it had been laid gently on the surface it might not have done that, but it impacted and penetrated into the liquid enough to start the churning, and once the churning started it fed on itself. |

The top surface of the volcano was a thin layer of solidified rock intially, which kept the lava under some pressure. The impact broke this shell, releasing the saturated gasses as mentioned, like a firey soda of death. I don't think much of what we're seeing is actually from the trash... Rather, most of that is just from poking a hole in the shell. |

I couldn't live near there. I wouldn't do anything except scrounge up shit to go throw in the volcano. I'd be a volcano bum. Not to mention all the pedestrian traffic from hairy little midgets running around and tossing jewelry in the damn thing...

Rather, most of that is just from poking a hole in the shell. You can tell from the thick smoke that the flame flares are directly from the trash. There might be some dissolved gasses escaping from the liquid rock, but I don't think that just breaking the crust with a big rock or something would have had even close to the same result. |

That's a great description of what Yellowstone is going to do one day. Which begs the question: How big a bag of garbage would it take to set off a self sustains eruption?
