Went this morning to Auto Zone to recycle motor oil from the weekend oil changes.
The clerk at the counter requested that the containers be placed on the counter and preceedes to quiz me regarding the contents. To which I said for the 2nd time, " used motor oil". He then opens one of the containers and sticks his finger into the oil. Sniffs it and then rubs his fingers together. He does this routine to the other containers. All the while giving me a stupid ass look. I've seen cabbages with more intelligence. Then this joker asks, " what's your phone number". I was pissed and asked why the 3rd degree. He never responded to any of my questions. Since I didn't want to tote the oil around all day I gave him a number that I pulled out of the air. And that made this wonk happy. Is this some new policy of AZ or is everyone acting this way?? I'll not be going back to AZ for any reason after this. GD |

Quoted: People give them oil mixed with antifreeze and all sorts of other crap they are not supposed to take. It is not that unusual to get a name and number. They have a log that you are supposed to fill out at all the ones around here. Name, Address, Phone number, and amount of oil depositing. It's been quite a long time since I saw one filled out recently. |
| Blaim the EPA not Autozone. It is the EPA ramming one to Autozone. Autozone turns the jug in as used motor oil and it is later found to be contaminated so the recyler charges Autozone big bucks to dispose of the contaminated motor oil. They have to charge the big bucks because if they dont dispose of the contaminated motor properly the EPA will fine them 10k per infraction. Thats the cliff notes but it is a very long bureaucratic process thanks to the .govs making. |

I always leave it with the ten thousand other bottles of used oil by the back or side door. not the best idea.... at least from way back when worked for Oreilly back in high school. during working hours we would take used oil in a big tank in the back didnt matter what it was just dump it in the tank. no records, no nothing, when it was full call the people to come switch out tanks however if it was left by the doors after hours? nope no can do cant take it and cant throw it away. has to sit in the back until zombies attack or something even better they would be sitting on the ground and eventually somebody would hit one while moving stock...dumping it out all over the floor. after that happened at least three times all the used oils vanished |

Only problem is that it is always full and the concrete surrounding it is slicker than whale poop. The good folks at Pep Boys tried to charge me a used oil disposal fee of $5.00 once so I've never been back. The guys at AZ said to leave it out back, so from that point on I take it as an open invitation. |

I was under the impression that they sold it and it was used as bunker fuel for large ships. Contaminating it with antifreeze or other non oil fluids makes the whole big container non usable for that purpose.
They used to not care at all, I gave them blown headgasket milkshake oil on more then one occasion. Now they are pretty strict about it. |

A friend was having $1000 worth of maintenance done to his car recently, and I happened to be his ride home. I had two 5 quart containers of Mobil One full of used oil that I asked them if they could take for me. They agreed to take it...and jokingly, I said to put the oil disposal fees on my friend's bill |

Never been asked anything. I just tell them I'm dropping off used oil, and they point me to the tank in the back of the store where I can dump out my bucket. +1 Except I never use Auto Zone. Fuuuuuuck that. I had a joker try to tell me that they don't turn brake rotors anymore because it creates so much heat it could cause the rotors to warp! AND you'd never even know this happened until you crashed!!! Needless to say, it's not worth the high blood pressure. |

Quoted: people who pour motor oil on the ground or down a drain should be held down and forced to drink a bottle Does that include all the local, county and state government officials and workers that used to spray that shit on thousands of miles of dirt road every year before the hippy pussies started hurting? |

They still do something like that here. Except it's an oily tar with small rocks called chip'n seal. Not sure if they use old oil or not, but it can't be any different. |

Quoted: Quoted: Something wrong with dumping it down the storm drain outside? because it's shitty thing to do? are we going to have a thread now where everyone acts like motor oil is not a pollutant? This is ARFCOM. Anything reasonable, thoughtful, consequential is automatically branded as faggot love and communism. |
