You think tea brewed in the sun is really better? I have done it for many years. That's the way I have always done it. What makes sun tea better?

Not that shit with a ton of sugar in it.

Most likely the slow release of flavors and aromas by the sun instead of being destroyed in the boiling process.

Made close to 5gal of the stuff in the past 4 days.

To taste right it has to be made in a glass jar.

Freaking plastic makes it taste funny.
When i make hot tea i do not boil the water.

Just hot enough to make it good.

I would think the strong UV light could damage some of the beneficial chemical compounds in the tea.

So slightly off topic, but the sun tea reminded me of this. One of our mortar guys in Afghanistan would make sun tea in water bottles outside his tent a few times a week. Eventually he noticed like half the bottles would be missing when he would go back out to collect them. So one day he pissed in a 1/4 of every bottle. No body stole his shit after that

Back on topic....

I was going to ask how come it is always the first post that nails the question until I saw the above.

Hard to top that one.

It tastes better because after long exposure to the sun, water inside of safe containers is cleaner and has less contaminants in it. Boiling water removes certain minerals and ions that make the water tastes good the sodis method does not. Brewing Tea in the sun is the Sodis method.

You destroy less of the volatile compounds at lower temp and also trap flavor in a closed(jar) system.  The quality of sun vs stove top tea really depends on the type of tea ingredients.  All that said, I probably couldn't tell the difference between the methods. One is free and doesn't heat up the house in the summer.

I guess it depends on what your objective is in making the tea.

Ahhh sun tea... That takes me back to New Mexico...

All the sun tea here in W. WA is imported. Like most of the sunshine. We had a nice summer this year, the sun came out and it got up to 68 on Friday afternoon.
