I didn't find it depressing at all, without giving it away, the main character didn't exactly get what he wanted but I wouldn't call it a sad ending. It was a bit slow, my wife fell asleep halfway in but I thought it was good.

ETA: To answer the OP, haven't picked a movie yet but I am watching a Mil Channel sniper documentary on Netflix.
