Got home from work the other night, and my wife asked what was making a noise she'd been hearing. Turns out I have a nest of fledgling screech owls-at least 5 of them. Managed to get a pic of one tonight before losing light(this is still fairly dark). Maybe Lumpy will make an appearance in this thread(don't remember the username of her owner's friend). These guys are cute. I want to catch one, but I like my fingers and also like NOT paying thousands in fines. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to figure out which tree the nest is in." target="_blank">http://

They may be cute, but you are right about the fingers.

Also, you don't want to piss off mommy, she will do real damage.

They will keep the local small rodent population well controlled until the little guys leave the nest in the fall.

Enjoy them.

Yep, and cute owls kick even more ass(if you've never seen one, a screech owl is a little bigger than a man's hand). The streetlight helped with this shot, or it wouldn't have worked at all(left the flash off out of consideration for their eyes). They're common in my area but it's been over 15 years since I've actually seen one. Looks like I'll be building a nestbox for next year. These guys are welcome visitors.
