My turn to pick a movie tonight and since the Dragon reminds me of the heady days of Yuri Gagarin and John Glenn, it's a toss up between the two.
Both movies are a dramatic display of what American inginuity and perseverance can accomplish, and I cherish both films.

Should I flip a coin ?

The Right Stuff.  Yeager's scene at the end is just awesome.

I like them both, but many years ago I watched Apollo 13 in real time so I really like that one better.

Pancho Barnes:
What are you two rookies gonna have?

Gordon Cooper: Rookies? Now hold on, sis. You are looking at a whole new ballgame here
now. In fact, in a couple of years, I bet you're even gonna immortalize
us by putting our pictures up there on your wall. [unwittingly referring to the dead pilot memorial over the bar]

Gordon Cooper: What? I say somethin' wrong here?

Pancho Barnes:
I tell you, we got two categories of pilots around here. We got your
prime pilots that get all the hot planes, and we got your pud-knockers
who dream about getting the hot planes. Now what are you two
pud-knockers gonna have? Huh?

I saw both and I prefer Apollo 13.  The Right Stuff is awfully stupid at times.

Oh, I also have the books that Both movies were made from.  The Right Stuff is the clear winner there.  The movie should have followed the book more closely.

It was Apollo 13.
Apparently my 2 choices were narrowed down to 1. (FIL played a big part in Gemini and Apollo).
Further arguement becomes a moot point. Thanks.

And both of them have Ed Harris!

That said, I'd go with The Right Stuff. Apollo 13 is great, I could watch it over and over again, but to me, the former is more of a boys' flick.

(This is a movie about a small western town where the local godfather dies. The family plans to hold a big funeral but the oppressed steal the body. The mob takes off in hot pursuit after them. The thieves run all through the town, through the mortuary, the bordello, town hall, and more trying to shake the mob, but the chase is hot and heavy. In desperation, they try to decoy the mob with other corpses and at points, it is like a keystone comedy. The name of this flick is................The Right Stiff, (w,stte), old joke)

I vote Apollo 13, haven't seen The Right Stuff.

I only first saw and realized the awesomeness of the Apollo 13 mission a few years ago.

About 10 years ago I got to hang out with Gene Krantz and Jim Lovell at my college campus.  We talked airplanes 'cause that's what I knew about.  Krantz was building a homebuilt at the time.  I knew these guys had something to do with the space program, but not much else.  Damn! talk about a wasted opportunity to hop nob with some extraordinary men.  *FACEPALM*  They were extremely friendly and enthusiastic to talk to me, in hind sight it was probably because it was the first time someone talked to them about something other than Apollo 13.

And the real General Chuck Yeager makes a cameo appearance as the drunk in the bar.

The TV series "Moon Machines" is for those of Us Who delve deeply into the Technical stuff.

The only thing that bugged Me about TRS is the way They made Yeager breaking the sound barrier look like a cowpoke just a goin' out to the corral and jumpin' on a bronc. Every mission was carefully planned & Professionally executed.

The real Captain James Lovell makes a cameo appearance as the Captain of the recovery ship in Apollo 13. They wanted him to be the Admiral, but he didn't want to wear a rank he didn't earn. His wife appears as a spectator watching the launch.

I absolutely love both movies. I would have to flip a coin to make a choice.

Right Stuff.  Reminds me when I was shooting up in Nevada City, CA and Chuck Yeager was next to me.  We chatted some and he shot a few rounds through my AR.  Wish I had a camera then.
