My wife decided to let the cats have the run of the house today when she went to work. I get a pending alarm notification around 4pm. I break the land speed record getting home only to find nothing wrong...and the cats roaming about
Call the alarm company and give them the all clear about 4:15 5:45 I hear METRO POLICE at my front door...thank god the dogs were outside as he opened the (what I thought was locked) screen door and had started to come in. I meet him at the door; tell him what the deal was. He asked for my ID, so I turn my 1911 side to him with my hands away from my body so there's no confusion...I don't want to see how well a Glock fits in my ear He said...HOLY SHIT I'M GLAD YOU TOLD ME. He had no idea I had a pistol on. I'm not wearing any cover garments in my own house... I shook his hand and away he went, no dogs were harmed, no draw down...except when I came home with the alarm blaring C...S...B. I know. But from active alarm to cop on scene....over an hour. Kinda makes me wonder why I pay for monitoring |

Search warrant is comming with "arsenal" news media alert. Heh...I was rearranging my safe when he came by. If I would have walked out of the office with my SBR, Beta mag and mounted NV ( screw you, I'm bored) He would have pissed himself, and shot the hell out of me

is that typical for a police response in your area? God yes. About the only time there's any actual speed to an alarm call is when it's a Sonitrol type alarm that has microphones in the residence/business. If the alarm company calls the police dispatch and says "we can hear voices inside and the alarm is activated." Police response within my department as well as the allied agency tends to be much faster. |

When I dispatched deputies, false alarms were probably 25% of all our calls, and took up untold man-hours every day. It's no surpise that they get pushed to the bottom of the stack. |

This goes in the "always notify" category. Oh, and monitoring is bullshit, unless you're on vacation. Then one hour arrival time beats two weeks arrival time. But since he gave the clear signal to the alarm company, they probably called the local police and told them they'd got the clear signal from the homeowner. I think most departments are obligated to answer every call in person, even when they know it is not an emergency. If so, then the department put the call on its lowest priority and sent an officer when there was nothing else happening just so they could clear it. |

Last thing I want is a family member or friend walking in on a burgler. Make sure it's a friend with an impressive gun collection and a short temper. |
