Do we really need all the touchy feely emotional crap? Can't he just be a badass old time sheriff like I thought the previews were hinting at? That's kind of what I was thinking. That alone already tells me that it won't be better than Justified, but it's worth watching a least one time to see if I'll like it. |

Watching the premier now. So far they have said two really stupid things about guns. First, a friend of Longmire's identifies a bullet taken from a corpse as a ".45-70 at least". When asked if there are any modern rifles that fire that cartridge, his friend says no. Really? Somebody had better tell Marlin that. Second, Katie Sackhoff's character says, remarking on the caliber of bullet, "In a world where you can buy an AK-47 off the Internet, why use an antique like this?"
I'll give it a shot, but I am not hopeful. |

I thought it was shit. ![]() I got the sneaking suspicion that he's been hitting the bottle or the coke, or both, a little too much lately. |

As a Wyoming resident, I like that its set here. That rarely happens. Absaroka County is fictional, but the other cities they were talking about; Wheatland, Laramie etc. are real. But I hate that its filmed in New Mexico. Show was clearly written by someone who knows what it is like to do ANYTHING on the Indian Reservation. Overall, I liked it. I'll be watching again. |

My main bitch is how he fucked the crime scene from the get go.
Starbuck was suppose to be a Homicide Dec for 6 years yet she doesn't know how to perverse a crime scene? And doesn't take pictures of any evidence before they touch it? I'll give it another show or two. But I get sick of shoddy Police Work in T.V. shows. Shit they could watch CSI and at least learn something about even if most of it's Bullshit. Or just ask an Officer next time one their Stars get pulled over for DUI. Ed |

Ed I don't think it's going to be that kind of cop show. I get the idea it'll be all about how the backwards cowboys in Wyoming don't follow any of the rules, but still manage to find the bad guy. They'll probably act like we don't have access to any kind of law enforcement technology. Good, old fashioned stereotypes. |

I was shocked that Lou Diamond Phillips didn't put his ear to the ground to hear a truck coming. There was no Teepees on the Res. And the Indians spoke very good English. Not a lot of Horses either. So the Raiding Party must have been off scalping, pillaging and raping the countryside.
My Cherokee Brothers weep for them. Ed |

I saw it, thought it was just OK. I expected more of a hard-ass, Justified kind of law officer. Instead, he was pretty mellow. The 45-70 gun "facts' were wrong.
It basically was a typical murder-of-the-week cop show set in Wyoming. I hope the producers will go beyond this, as they're given a rich palate of characters and scenery to create interesting stories. Let's see what the writers can come up with. |
|
Back off! Don't get between a dog and his bone! Ed |
| I saw 1/2 of the first episode. Moved too slow with the same old tough guy with a 30-30 storyline. (yawn) If it was set here in Texas and he was fighting cartel members, carried a battered BCM SBR and did a mag dump once in a while I could get into it. I'll try one more episode, maybe without the crackpipe. |

Wow......great episode. I also agree. Nice twist about the body not being the husband. I see they are going to play out the Branch sleeping with his daughter thing for a while longer - oh well. did anyone get a good look at the burned up .45? I thought I saw a single action type ejector along the barrel, but then he opened it up like a double action revolver. Did I see the ejector wrong? |
I just finished the third book. The thing that makes the books so good is the dialogue. The TV screen writers just haven’t got it yet. They’re close, but not there yet. I’ll keep watching and hoping. Maybe they could hire a couple of the Justified writers , those guys write good dialogue.
There are gun mistakes in the books too. Glock with a safety sound familiar? But the mistakes in the books are not as bad as the series. I’ll give that some time too. So far the series is good but not great. I’m hoping for great, it has the potential. |

Quoted: Has anyone else seen the previews for the new show "Longmire" on A&E? What do you guys think? I like what I've seen so far. I'm hoping that it will hold me over until the new season of Justified. ![]() It ain't no Justified, but so far, it's not all that bad either. |

Quoted: Last night's ep (5) had a really good ending. I think this show has a lot of potential. When the woman said, "I think he will make a poor witness in court", He should have just said, "I do not think he will be looking for justice in court". I did like the "I will get here as fast as I can" line. |

Looks like one of the old Hollywood prop guns they used back in the B western days. They would weld a fake ejector rod housing on a S&W or Colt 1917. |

Also, it looks like his daughter's secret is out! |
