Last night my laptop was acting up a bit, so I decided to turn it off, and then back on. Only one problem; it won't turn on at all now! Battery is good, AC adapter is plugged in and fine, but it is dead as can be. Is there anything that I can do?

Try pulling the battery out for 5 minutes or so.

Been dropped lately?  Get too hot?  I had an alienware laptop do this. It got too hot and the video card warped.  Had to open the case and gently force some pins back together.  You may have had a connection come loose.  If it is under warranty, don't open it. Send it in.  Computer "repair" shops will rape you.  Better off buying a new one

It's 7 years old, so no warranty on it. It was getting a little warm yesterday.

Try taking the battery out but keeping the laptop plugged in...see if that works

If so, you need a new battery

Heat kIlls laptops.   Seven years old, might just be dead component.  You can pull the hard drive and put it into some larger laptops as a slave drive to retrieve your files, unless the hard drive is dead.   You can find new laptops for $400 now, and while not top of the line, they will be faster than your old one.

Just suggestions.

this.. Pull all sources of power. Battery and power cord for a couple of minutes. Then plug it all back up.

Pulling the battery for 5 minutes worked. Thanks, all!

Edited to add; I put the battery back, and it's fine. Probably just got too hot.

Glad to hear its alive again, but at 7 years old don't expect it to last forever.

Be sure to back everything up.

Agreed....he got lucky.  But as mentioned, you can get something FAR superior to what you have now for $400-$500

Sometimes they hang while sleeping.  Pulling the battery (and line power) is the only way to wipe the ram.
