I'm really starting too get pissed at work and am finally realizing I need a career change.  I am a forklift driver at a warehouse in Lima, Ohio currently, it pays good but I'm really getting fed up.  Im willing to go to school or whatever it takes to get a decent paying job and was looking for input as far as what I could go into and actually be able to get a job.  I like actually physical work not just standing or sitting in one spot all day.  I was thinking something in the construction field or maybe railroad or automotive industry.  Any input like a good job search site or anything is GREATLY appreciated.  I've worked at said job for almost 6 years and called off once or twice and I know my grammar is terrible.

How old are you?

What is the last school you graduated from? High school? Trade school? College?

What are your present marketable skills?

How will you be paying for any further schooling?

What's the reason, if any for wanting to leave your current job? Boredom? More money? Job security?

Im 25 years old and have a high scool diploma.  I have operated forklifts and lots of construction and farming equipment.  I have no certifications with anything I just have experience with it.  I have money saved and can pay for school myself or if I go something relating to work they will help.  Im honestly angry and fed up and need some change.  My current job you work your ass off I bid off once into another department but hated that even more.  I can't do what Im doing now forever anyway and I don't see myself with this company forever and feel I need to make myself a more desired employee to a company that may care a little about me.

Remember the old saying, 'the grass is always greener on the other side' - but still, there are other things you could be training in and preparing yourself for a career in something that you really like to do.

Just do it.

Could you explain exactly what is pissing you off at work?

Management? Hours?

Have you thought about the military - and then maybe college on the G.I. bill afterwards?

Management is the biggest reason, they don't appreciate the hard work we do.  The hours do suck but they always have but it would be nice to have a little more of a life or at least more of a set scheldule.

OP if you're not the squeamish type and not afraid of some challenging schooling you should look into nursing programs. I googled a bit for you and Ohio State's BSN program has a very agreeable tuition. You can just work with your BSN or go further a million different ways. Pays good, GD says hospitals are full of sexually deviant people () and you'll be doing pretty exciting things. Lots of adrenaline if you work in an ER for example. There's definitely a physical side of the job too. I say look into it. You're NOT too old for it.

Industrial electricians do pretty well.  You can start at the bottom and learn as you go.  Many companies have free training programs.  If you pay attention you can go from apprentice to electrician in less than 5 years.  I've seen it done in 3 but that's rare.  The biggest downside is that the work isn't always steady and unless you get a job with a company that does a lot of work in your area you'll have to travel to stay busy.  On the other hand you can easily make six figures  without having a college degree but you'll put in a good deal of overtime to do it.
