Have the opportunity to buy a Springfield M1A, "national match barrel", black synthetic furniture. 30 rounds through it. 1200$.
Good price? What do I need to look for? Trying to get the exact model number. |

Quoted:
What markings do the other parts have on them? What kind of sights does it have? Is the stock bedded? In what range is the serial number? I assume these are the questions I need to be asking. Supposedly has the box and paperwork. I'm a bit worried it's been cannibalized but it appears to have been an impulse buy. |

If it has different make parts [USGI] then that is a good thing, Good USGI parts go for a premium over SA "civi" parts. Is the barrel SS or Parked? |

Nothing new. Right out of the box. National Match Barrel. Supposedly paid 1500$ NIB.
Sounds like a good price but it's not the kind of gun where I would expect the seller to have such limited information. I have the opporunity to bring it home to check it out. I don't want to take it home to look at without the slightest clue what to look for. |

It sounds like you are looking at an M1A Loaded model. Get the seriel number and go to the Springfield website and send it in. They will tell you when it was made and what it left the factory as. When I bought my first M1A the gun guy tried to tell me it was a NM rifle just because it had a NM barrel. The Loaded model has NM parts. NM Barrel, trigger, front sight and flash suppressor. It doesn't have the NM rear sight and the stock is not bedded. It comes with either a black synthetic or a walnut stock.
Price is not bad, new they are around 1,500. Try to get him down a little if you feel like it. |

Personally I prefer the service rifle stock over the NM stock anyway. Overall 1200 doesn't sound outrageous to me if it's in good shape. |

Be aware match rifles can look like new after seveal thousand rounds through them. Mine do.
In any case, I thought all the loaded models came with that blasted oversized walnut stock. Speaking of which, I need to bug Fred's about my skinny M14 stock and where it is. |
