On now on NatGeo...
Holy WTF!!!!!! They have to search these people out. This has to be a coordinated effort to ridicule anyone that preps and keep them reliant on "the collective". I've never met anyone even remotely like these people. |
|
Quoted: Quoted: Are they portraying Mormons poorly, or are these people not Mormon? I don't know what they are, but I could see this being a Mormon bashing deal. They are target shooting with kids and no hearing protection. ![]() to go around in the first 30 minutes so far. With the politics of NatGeo and with Romney being the likely R candidate, it does raise a few questions as to why this is getting airtime right now. Some of this appears to have been filmed almost 4 years ago. |

I've never met anyone even remotely like these people. The problem is how many hardcore serious rational preppers are going to blow OPSEC by going on national tv? So you can see the folks they are left with.

Is this different from the usual prepper show? Retards times ten. I watch the doomsday prepper show and will never watch this jackassery again. So it was called "Training for the Apocalypse"? I can't find anything on the cable box with that, and natgeo replays shit a bunch in the week. |

I love people like that, they make me look NORMAL... I use to think that I was a pretty odd duck, but since I started hanging out on the internet, I realize that my "oddness" doesn't even twitch the strange-o-meter of the worlds population. That is both reassuring and scary at the same time.

Hi folks, I'm the director of this show and just wanted to let you know that there's no conspiracy to trivialize preppers going on. We worked very hard at telling a respectful story about the people we ended up working with. ("Anonymous" was the exception, that we hoped would help portray others in a more level-headed light). The SURVIVE AND THRIVE group in Philly is meant to provide a more practical POV about prepping, free of politics or bombast. The fact that the founder of that group has explored using drugs ritualistically (not recreationally) to expand his consciousness didn't strike us as an indictment on his views or of the group, but rather as one way people sometimes reach breakthroughs. We'd very much like to further explore the utterly rational world of prepping, and the irrationality of unpreparedness, in future episodes. Very much looking forward to your constructive criticism and suggestions on that front. Thank you very sincerely.

In fact you brought my wife and I closer together, by us watching and laughing at your show. |

I noticed the Mormon Prophet stuff was filmed in 2009; did you just kinda have this show sitting around and decide to air it now or is it a rerun? Speed |

Good luck with that. Oh, and BTW, who wrote this (from the Nat-Geo website) and did they do it with a straight face? Training For the Apocalypse chronicles the journeys of survivalists, truth-seekers and prophets united in their quests for personal peace as they prepare for global cataclysm and the near-extinction of humanity. In an era when rumors, prophecies and theories have often eclipsed various evident realities at hand, TFA serves to humanize, enlighten and inform, with a cautious respect for the words and deeds of our subjects rather than a capitalization on vague fears or subjective judgments. Practical discoveries are made while distinct personal stories develop about those striving and struggling to live their best, while preparing for the worst.

Quoted: Dog, thanks, we'd prefer people laughed "with" more than "at" but whatever works. Speed, thank you for the welcome. It was a long-term documentary project that we shot entirely on our own until completion in Jan 2012. Gotcha. The prepper trend is getting heavy; NG had a few little shows before, but their new series seems to be taking off. I have to ask, do you have anything in the pipe for prepper shows right now? Speed |
. We should all be putting the time and effort into teaching others or learning what has been forgotten. I liked what the Surviive and Thrive member John said when he was teaching traps and snares, he made a lot of sense to me. I read these guys on AR15.com all the time. The guys here are just as brainwashed as anywhere else, albeit in different proportions. The talk about a conspiracy to discredit preppers or call folks that are different "crazy", these are guys full of themselves, as usual. Sitting on their asses polishing their ammo. The people that you presented are relevant from all angles to anyone who is paying attention. As far as Anonymous goes, he struck a chord on this board because around here many recognize parts of him in themselves . The killers in waiting, the badass zombie hunters. Pussies, the lot of them. Your job was well done sir. Thank you for your service to God and your country. Take care.

I too am skeptical.
However, can NGEO cover the boring part of all of this? The simple things maybe? And give tutorials as well? Maybe episodes on canning, gardening, cellaring? Etc, etc etc. It is not about the end of the world, it is about a lifestyle of making a better, more whole life during normal times, and retaining normalicy during not so normal. |

I find it very interesting that Doomsday Preppers and this shit show portray responsible people as either social misfits or religious whackos. Can we all agree that these are just additional media hit pieces on anyone who is even scarcely concerned with being ready for a rainy day and/or self sufficiency?
Personally, I like watching the shows, but the people they profile on these things are not representative of people I know. |

Personally, I like watching the shows, but the people they profile on these things are not representative of people I know. But then I'm not sure a sober show on prepping has a large audience. The masses like to laugh and point, not to have their woeful dependence brought into sharp focus. Plus TV is run by the most incompetent copycat jackholes you can imagine. |

Quoted: It said Los Angeles. Last time I checked, not in AZ. And that turd is crazy. Was the editor of that show smoking crack when he put it together? What kind of fucked up show was that? I want my 56 minutes back...Quoted: Quoted: Okay, which one of you guys is that anonymous guy? Check with the AZHTF ![]() What now... ![]() |

All these "reality" shows are just exercises in finding idiots to put on TV IMO.
I was at the in-laws the other week, don't normally watch that stuff and I realized somebody I know is on a logging show, dude's a complete moron, literally a joke across three counties in the industry. When I saw him I was literally surprised he hadn't gotten himself killed by now, maybe the cameras will capture it, I'm thinking that's the idea based on what I saw. |
