Almost everything is better than Shiner. Try PBR and Schlitz. That is blasphemy!!!!! Shiner is not bad, but it is not a premium beer like it is priced here locally. Should be about Budweiser price. Kind of like Blue Bell Ice creme, tastes like shitty soft serve from DQ, but we got to cheer it like it an awesome product because it is from Texas Ye-Haw!

Ah, those that have never had it draft. Especially at the brewery. Not bad if you don't take the keg out of Lavaca County The bottled stuff? Yeah, I can see why you Yankees and other foreigners think less of it. Especially after being abused in the back of a hot truck. |

There isn't much I'll disagree with you about, Keith, but I'll speak up on this point. I have never been to the brewery, but every place has shiner on tap. It's really not good, and I regularly choose dollar pints of lonestar over shiner. |

Should be ok in Colorado, Fayette, DeWitt, Wharton, Jackson or Victoria counties. The rest I cannot assure |

This was in the Springs. |

Springs? It is BREWED in Shiner TX which is in Lavaca County. Now there is Spring Texas, some 165 miles East-NE of there. Still a hike. |

OP, I think the beers you seek are Spaten Optimator and Paulaner Salvatore.

I have a batch of Smithwick's clone brewing now. Ales, porters, stouts and doppelbocks are my favorites. |

I like Shiner, always have or as long as I was old enough to get my hands on the stuff.
I've been told by numerous beerheads that it is indeed crap beer. It may be, I have no idea. But I like the flavor both in bottles and on tap. Yes I've had fresh and local to the brewery also. Beerheads get way too into it in my opinion. To each his own is how I see it, I think most of the "good beers"(according to a beer head) tastes like diseased and discharged laden crackwhore panties brewed with ball sweat. I think a lot of beerheads have a bit of a snobby streak and refuse to drink anything common just to keep up an appearance. |
